Aqua Beach Bungalows — Hotel in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

CAUTION ! We were due to stay here ( I think our 8th year; sometimes staying twice in a year) from 1st Aug to 15th August 2020.When we made the booking the accommodation was non refundable the other elements like AC, plus service and safe are refundable. Due to Covid our flight got cancelled and I understand the non refundable element is non refundable but I would have thought the owners would have been more flexible in allowing us to change our dates even if for a small admin fee. Incidentally this was the only option at the time of booking! I have emailed and emailed asking for a refund of 287 Euros for the AC, Service Plus and Safe as these are refundable. We could have taken these options when in the resort and it is clear on our booking these are NOT classed as non refundable! I hear a few similar stories on google and trip advisor. I know this is the year of COVID-19 so times are not normal. When I’ve phoned and left a message still no one replies to my emails. The owners I am sure will lose out in the long term as we will not be staying here again and others on Google Reviews and Trip Advisor say the same. Short sited indeed. I hope for the very excellent staff the business survives. In business I believe there needs to be a degree of common sense and flexibility but the owners Richard and Maarten really don’t seem to see the bigger picture and are not customer focused. I am lost for words and still waiting my refund for 287 Euros. Thank you for reading and hope this has been helpful to others. What can I say….what a special place. The team are so friendly, it’s the small things that make a difference and they made our stay very personal. Prior to our arrival my partner organised some flowers and a cake and they responded very efficiently and were able to accommodate what he wanted. ||The resort is clean and kept well, and the bar service is great. You can get food, hot and cold drink. They have a fob system which means you don’t pay with cash as you go, but you can only pay cash at the end, card is not accepted. The location is great, if you want complete silence then with this resort being across the road from the Yumbo Centre, won’t be for you. That said, you do not hear much and I am a light sleeper, and no noise kept me awake. ||The pool and jacuzzi are great, I personally do not like cold water so the jacuzzi which is big, was perfect for me to cool down. ||The transfers to and from resort made things a lot easier and was reasonably priced. ||We stayed in a superior bungalow which was just the right size for us both, the kitchen facilities were adequate. The bed was huge and comfortable, albeit the pillows were not my personal liking. I prefer a firmer pillow but that’s my problem! The terraced areas were very large and felt private enough if that’s your thing. ||There is ample loungers around the pool, there were always spaces available at whatever time you decided to use them. Some of the actual sun loungers are slightly uncomfortable, I noticed a few people changing theirs around too. The bars underneath can dig in. ||We are 100% returning, no question about that. I've stayed at thus resort four times. It is on the more expensive places to stay and is very convenient for Yumbo centre.

Sadly the place is tired. The bungalows are generally well furnished but require some maintenance.

The shower was full of mould below the door and also you can see a huge amount of caulk covering mould along the shower tray/edges.

The bed linens were cheap and tawdry. They must have been on this island for decades. Same with towels including a ripped hand towel we recieved.

The owners sits in his office at front of resort and along with his young boyfriend they only come to the bar to give "tired Eric" a break.

Stop buying cheap plastic lawn size animal ornaments. They look very tacky.

Room cleaning was minimal, maid departed and I finished dusting, under sofa, dining table frame, over dining table lamp, under bed.....etc...

Finally my partner caught ringworm probably from the jacuzzi/spa. A fellow traveller also got conjunctivitis in one eye. Probably as one guy had half his hand up someone's arse while in spa on multiple occasions.

This is a busy place and the men are mature and quiet. They advertise an extensive menu at the bar/kitchen but I would not eat here. Someone ordered chips/fries and the smell from the old oil in deep fat fryer put me off.

Finally, unfortunate that if you arrive after 6pm you must pay 70 euros to take their private taxi.

You are charged to use the safe in room whether you choose or not, same with a/c.

So owners need to take some rooms off-line for serious maintenance.

Oh and get rid of that grumpy polish guy Eric......he is beyond his...
