A Tropical Oasis in the Heart of the City - Palmetum in Santa Cruz is a true gem for nature lovers. This botanical garden specializes in palm trees, boasting an incredible variety from around the world. The layout is thoughtfully designed, allowing visitors to meander through different sections, each offering a unique display of flora. What's striking is the transformation of this space from a former landfill into a lush, green sanctuary. It's not just about the palms; the garden is a habitat for a range of exotic plants, making it a vibrant burst of greenery in the urban setting.
Despite its size, the Palmetum feels intimate, with well-placed benches and viewpoints overlooking the sea, offering moments of tranquility. The garden is well-maintained, with clear signage and information about the different species of palms. It's a great educational experience for both adults and children.
The highlight for many is the panoramic view of the city and the ocean from the higher points in the garden. It's a perfect spot for a peaceful break or a leisurely stroll, especially for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Compact yet rich in biodiversity, the Palmetum is a must-visit for anyone in Santa Cruz, whether you're a botany enthusiast or just seeking a quiet...
Read moreI appreciate it is an achievement to turn a previous eyesore and environmental catastrophe on a lovely scenic holiday island that millions visit every year. I must state that although I admire the intent I do not think it merits a visit on any level. The plants are mostly in a very poor condition. This could be the nearby oil refinery in direct view or the poison seeping from below in the unknown waste that lies below. I have visited all areas of the island. Love the Botanics in Puerto Cruz and the historic Orchid Garden nearby. Horticulturally they are magnificent and well presented. I would not recommend to come here as it undoubtedly an improvement to the local environment but as a tourist visitor site to admire it is disappointing. It is also poorly maintained . On the upside it solves your parking problems in Santa Cruz. It has a huge parking area which is free and in easy reach of the centre of the city which is only a short walk away. A shame otherwise but I would...
Read moreGreat facility, lovely views across the city and great disability access with level paths and mobility scooters available. It's next to very industrial area but the beautiful palms mask this. Very educational with different continent zones of trees. Not many flowers in bloom when I visited, but it's very luscious & green. Good WC facilities but lacks a cafe on site only vending machines. Fabulous views across the bay and lots of seats dotted around site. The waterfalls where not all working when I visited which was a shame :( it's a short walk from the bus station and 20-30minutes walk from town plus site seeing bus drop off point €6 entry for tourists- not bad. Staff are very friendly and a...
