I was surprised by the modern exhibition in this museum, which isn't really advertised anywhere to tourists. Both here and in Barcelona I was practically the only visitor, but both museums have information on excavations on Paleolithic sites in the region as recent as 2010 with explanations that even focus on kids. Amazing examples of rock art, incised stones with images of extinct animals and many pictures and references is just the start of a long journey in Valencian history, that ends when the classic protohistory starts. But this region was contested in Punic wars and it provides an unique window into the Iberic culture that proceded the classical Roman empire. I think your trip to Valencia isn't complete without a visit into its long history and this museum is the best place to experience it. Sagunto is a...

Very nice place. Was here three times. Very upset this summer, that part of the halls is closed to the public! Much of what was previously closed now! On the ground floor there used to be a cafe, now it does not work either. The feeling of abandonment, neglect. The third time there were the only visitors. Very sad. Admission is inexpensive 2 euros for adults and 1 euro for children. Parking is problematic.

P. S. Add that upsets and annoys MOST OF ALL: all the information is written in Catalan, and duplicated barely visible in Spanish Castilian. In English, NO WORDS. Why are you depriving yourself of visitors? You have them, and so...

The Prehistory Museum in Valencia is like stepping into a time machine that doesn’t mess with your hair! The artifacts here, from ancient tools to jaw-dropping cave art replicas, tell the story of humanity’s earliest days in such a vivid way. I was blown away by the Valencian Venus, a tiny 20,000-year-old figurine that’s basically the region’s oldest celebrity. Tickets are €2 (free for kids under 7 and on Sundays!), and it’s open 10 AM–8 PM, closed Mondays. Bring comfy shoes the museum’s huge, and you’ll want to linger in every room. Don’t skip the bookshop; it’s a treasure trove for history nerds

A very enlightening experience. You get to see coins, statues, artifacts, epitaphs, from BC eras which make you think about how fast life is. Also some musings on how Valencia tourism has brought some elements of the culture forward and some elements back. We went around 6pm and were rushing to get to the end of the museum since it closes at 8pm. Maybe spend about 3-4 hours here to get to appreciate it. Also if you don't speak Spanish - you can try the Google Translate app as it has a camera which can translate the non-English captions.

They have an interesting collection from paleolithic thru bronze age times. Including one of the biggest "coffee" cups ever. As you'll learn from visiting the museum there are probably 50 or more sites within 35 or 40 miles of Valencia including numerous caves inhabited from as much as 300,000 years ago. Like many if the museums in Valencia it only costs 2€ at the most, with various discounts depending on age, etc. It was very quiet, not that busy. Nice atmosphere and a lot of educational material. Worth a visit.
