I’ll try and keep this balanced and informative. Overall, not great though...
Pros: Good quality quads, accommodating guide, good route with nice stops, photos sent by whatsapp.
Cons: Staff not really friendly or welcoming, felt as if we were wasting their time and they only wanted money. Everything was negative from the beginning e.g. “can’t do this, can’t do that” etc.
I agreed a price, asked if they take card, they said yes card is no problem, I go to pay, they say cash only - so bad service. When I said they said card was ok I got told the price is a cash price.
Nothing highlighting safety or insurances really.
At one point on the trip a single policeman stopped us and we had to pay a €200 cash-in-hand fine each (although not the tour guide). There was a lot of blame on us and no responsibility from the tour guide at all. We had no cash so our driving licenses were taken and we got told to go to an ATM with the guide to withdraw the cash. I offered to go to the police station or get a receipt for the driving licenses and I pay later but both these options were ‘impossible’. They eventually relented when I called authorities for advice (who advised this was untoward). Now, I can smell a scam a mile away, but I’m just stating what happened and you can take what you like from it - scam or not, it was a bad experience to have on a tour and it wasn’t handled well by the guide. I emailed the company afterwards explaining what happened and the response was poor.
That left a pretty sour taste for the rest of the trip. Although all said and done, the route was good, little bits of off-road, you get to see a lot - so yeah, that aspect was alright. Just a shame about the service and...
Read moreWe did the quad tour primarily for our kids, both 16, who wanted to experience driving off-road. We chose the 2 hour option, which actually flew despite ending up as nearly 2.5 hours.
I've read many of the reviews, as I typically make judgements myself off what's said, and I'd be happy to give this 5 stars.
Our experience was excellent.
Myself and my wife drove on the road, and the kids took over for off-road. They thoroughly enjoyed it.
There was the island history and insights, which for us was interesting (the kids, they just wanted to drive).
I can be hard to please, but this, I cant fault. I'd highly recommend the 2 or 3 hour tour as it's the off-road piece that makes it I think.
Our route was different to what was on the site (I think), but we got to visit the beaches of papagayo and mujeres. Kids happy = parents happy.
The guide does drive in a jeep which we didn't realise until we were about to start the trip but that's actually really handy as you can bring water, phones, sun cream etc and leave in the jeep and use as needed. Had we known we would have brought sun cream.
For me, the price is fair. It's a good 2 hours and we actually got to see much of Playa blanca.
The guide, whose name I forgot to get, does take photos and video, which is a bonus. I'm waiting to get ours so may upload some after posting.
Tip: bring sunscreen and your phone (for pictures). Be prepared to get a bit dusty. Shorts and t-shirt are fine. Wear trainers. No flip flops etc. Helmets provided so no need for hats and...
Read moreEven though our Quad Bike Tour didn't go as planned, we were very much impressed with the exemplary manner in which the owner dealt with the situation...
5 minutes after we set off for our tour, the couple behind us managed to swerve off the road and hit a lone sign post. To this date I can still not understand how this happened on a perfectly straight and tarmacked road while still driving at low speeds at the beginning of our tour??? (and roads being much better than in the UK actually)
We heard this happen. I saw the quad bike against the pole in my rear-view mirror and when my daughter turned around she could see the lady - who was initially sitting at the back - on the floor. Nobody was hurt luckily (except for the quad's bodywork) but my daughter got spooked and no longer wanted to be on the quad bike.
The owner who joined us soon after was very understanding of our situation and immediately refunded the tour (on the spot) and even paid for the taxi to get us back to the rental office (while the "crash-couple" continued their tour on our quad bike)... the way he handled everything was just exemplary and I would feel very confident making any type of booking with this company.
It's not that easy to still deliver a 5-star experience when things go wrong, but Rent a Quad did...
