臺南開基玉皇宮創建於明鄭永曆二十四年（1670年），俗稱「舊天公廟」，是臺灣最早奉祀玉皇上帝的廟宇。

最初由漳泉移民攜帶玉皇上帝、玉皇三公主娘香火及玉皇四太子神像渡海來臺，於尖山頂建天壇供奉，後因玉皇四太子顯靈濟世，居民集資建廟，初名「玉皇太子宮」。清嘉慶五年（1800年）地震後重建，改奉玉皇上帝為主神，更名「開基玉皇宮」，奠定其「開臺天公廟」地位。

###建築與信仰特色

神明體系完備： 主祀玉皇上帝，配祀玉皇四殿下（原太子）、玉皇三公主娘，以及三官大帝、五斗星君、月老等逾40尊神祇，涵蓋道教諸天信仰與佛教神佛，堪稱臺灣「天界神明」最齊全的廟宇。

獨特軟身神像： 保存嘉慶年間福州匠師雕塑的玉皇上帝、四殿下、三公主娘大型軟身神像（關節可動），歷經戰火仍完好，被視為鎮廟之寶。

當代儀典創新： 首創專業化「婚禮拜天公」服務，由道長依古禮三獻科儀為新人祈福，供品由廟方統籌，吸引年輕世代傳承民俗。
