HOTEL PROVERBS TAIPEI — Attraction in Taipei

Good - location near food stalls and good bars. Rooms are decent although small for what you are paying for. West end bar on 3F has good whiskey selection but smells like washing detergent. Rooms on 11F are quiet and beds comfortable

Bad - staff training needs improvement

Asked for a late checkout but was refused. After asking a second time I was informed that it would not be possible due to full capacity.

When my friend who was checking in next to me got a 2pm late check out I asked why I couldn’t get the same late check out (I was a higher tier platinum bonvoy member but I did not mention this). I was eventually given the late check out but it left a bad taste.

As a bonvoy member we should be given priority over other guests but instead we were treated with a lame duck explanation for why we could not get a late check out and they were a “designer hotel” not a Marriott hotel. The main reason we book Bonvoy is so that we can get member benefits. I understand that as a boutique hotel with limited capacity there are less options but you should not be giving out benefits based on the whim of the check in clerk. This just tells me that they do not care about their loyalty members and have signed up to bonvoy just to increase their bookings.

Instead of apologizing for the mistake, check in just reminded us that I had to check out on time. Not good customer service

Staff are generally not helpful. The hotel has no facilities and not suitable for business travel but helpful staff can go a long way. When I had to take a 10am zoom meeting I did not want to wake up my wife because she was sleeping in the room. There is a 3F lounge that you can use but it smells like washing detergent and there are no convenient power outlets for laptops. Instead of offering me with an extension chord or letting me use the restaurant downstairs and order a coffee, every staff member I spoke to just said sorry can’t help and I had find a cafe outside (and be late for my meeting)

For similar price there are much better...

Can’t say enough good things about this property. Rooms are well sized with a nice classic design (lots of wood and metal) but functionally modern. Rooftop offers great views but pool is not heated so not easy to swim in winter. East End bar on the 3rd floor is a guilty pleasure, having a world class cocktail bar in the same building is dangerous but an opportunity we enjoyed almost daily. The bartenders are professional, skilled, and the service and ambience is top notch. We did not have a bad drink.

Service in the Proverbs hotel was a unique high point. Ivan in particular took exceptional care of us, providing us with tips on the surrounding neighborhood, helping us book express train tickets for the next leg of our journey, and just proactively providing anything we needed with a real pride in service. He made the trip extra special.

The location of the hotel is really convenient. Directly on the blue and brown lines (bannan & wenhu lines) - it’s about a 1min walk to Zhongxiao Fuxing and Zhongxiao Dunhua stations (they’re connected). It’s extremely efficient access to many major sights in Taiwan and only 3 stops from Taiwan Main station for airport or rail connection. The surrounding area around the hotel has plenty of food and drink options, including some of the best high end cocktail bars in Taipei.

Only possible negative on the hotel is lack of a gym, but the other positives more than make up for it. Will definitely stay here again on future leisure...

Hotel Proverbs provided my family a great introduction to Taipei! The hotel itself is located in an ideal neighborhood, full of interesting shops and restaurants and with easy access to many modes of public transportation. From the moment you walk into the hotel, you can observe fashionable and luxurious lobby, guest room, and dining areas, full of high quality furniture. The hotel staff were super friendly, and you could really tell that they worked hard to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. The front desk staff explained the amenities very clearly and patiently (in both English and Chinese). We did arrive before check in time, but while we were exploring the city, the staff took our bags to our room as soon as the room was ready, so it was a nice surprise not to have to lug our luggage up to our room once we checked in. Our guest room (as well as the rooftop pool) had an amazing view of the city from the oversized balcony, and we enjoyed the comfortable beds and high end bedclothes. The food in the main restaurant l’Idiot and the third-floor lounge East End was surprisingly delicious. We had the best congee we ever had for breakfast, and the mocktails at the bar were tasty and refreshing. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better hotel stay in Taipei, and if we ever visit the city again one day, we will be sure to...
