my favorite night market yet - Shilin had a huge variety and tons of options for food including vegetarian, meats, apps, drinks, desserts. They also had some stores for accessories, clothing, handbags etc. Later in the night (after8pm) you may find some special vendors with imitation goods.
Good friend cold noodles started off at the Shilin Night Market with a banger - GFCN won several Michelin bib gourmand stars in a row and for its price point, quality, and simplicity, I get it. Not much English spoken here but you dont need it either. There’s literally 4 ingriedients and you can add meat if you want. The cold sesame noodles were just amazing. We got a large and wished we could eat more. Since the noodles were top notch, we opted to try their miso soup as well which they literally take boiling water and add egg to and then serve it so it can be really hot. A small is 60NTD and large is 75NTD - the difference not being much so just get the large. Cash only - this place can sometimes have a line but they do have a small seating area.
French fries why people were lining up for this simple French fry place was really interesting - they made super long French fries after which they could add cheese, pepper, Nori, or chilli. Then you had the option to add as much of 7 different sauces as you wanted (mayo, tomato, lemon, mango, honey mustard, sweet and sour, and one more)
Cheng Zu worth the wait! This Michelin rated pepper bun place makes fresh out the oven pepper buns with either beef or pork. They speak some more English than others and even had a fountain you could use to wash your hands in. We got a beef pepper bun and wish we got 2 more. One bit into it had all the juices coming out and the beef was cooked just right. The bun itself was the perfect ratio of dough to meat and also cooked just enough so that it was chewy but not too raw. I highly recommend this place - so much so that we keep thinking about going back!
Temple vermicelli noodles This stall was located at the corner of the street right in front of the temple. They had a small wait and a large menu. we got just noodle soup, large size. The soup had a pretty good miso like flavor and they added thickening to make it less like a broth and more like a stew. The noodles were vermicelli. This was good and would recommend for people to try but if I were returning, I’d save the calories for another pepper bun.
We also had a chance to try some guava juice and papaya milk (which is basically a papaya smoothie). Both...
