Kathu Shooting Range — Attraction in Kathu

I am not a beginner and was disappointed that they tried to treat me like one!

The firearms I selected from their pricing schedule were not the ones they prepared for shooting on the range and when I protested in request of the guns selected, they told me they were broken! I then chose different guns that were functional (one of which was also revealed to be malfunctioning after selecting it when offered) whereupon they had the gaul to charge me extra!!! Anywhere else, if a vendor could not supply the selected advertised item, it would be the obligation of the vendor to provide a desirable alternative at NO EXTRA COST!

At least 3 of the guns I selected to shoot malfunctioned more than once due to poor maintenance and/or bullet quality and while malfunctions are to be expected sparingly during shooting, it became very apparent to me throughout that these firearms were not well looked after.

In fact, when shooting the .223 "sniper rifle" I was quite stupefied that due to a broken extractor (the little hook on the bolt that pulls the spent shell/cartridge/casing out of the breach) the "instructor" had to push a cleaning rod down the bore after each shot to push the spent shell out!!! A bit of a joke I thought. Also, there were two misfires during the "sniper" experience which really broke my concentration for the remaining shots.

While one in a million misfires is fair for commercial rounds, for 20% to be misfires suggests that something else other than expected failure rate is taking effect!

Finally while I was impressed that they could offer clay pigeon shooting, ultimately this too became a disappointment as the firearm advertised was simply not available! So in closing my experience, I requested the targets I had shot to keep as a memento with a quick written description with some details recorded (as depicted on their website and/or google information). To this I was amazed to be handed a biro, not even a marker to do this myself!!!

All in all, for the money spent this was a disheartening experience and I am surprised the range had a ranking of 4.1 stars at the time I was investigating a prospective visit. For all of the uninitiated, the experience you will recieve here is not what you should expect and deserve from this amazing activity......keep searching...

We had an excellent experience with my family all having a go of a range of firearms.

While no .223 AR combo exist plenty of other options are available in hand gun calibers and a .223 option in a bolt action Remington R700 style unit with a scope in a prone or seated bench position.

A 12-gauge semi-auto shotgun and other items.

It's not cheap and they offer no packaging / discounts if you turn up and want to spend / shoot with multiple people with all different items. It's À la carte shooting menu, so it's rather expensive.

Cheaper ranges exist and offers exist or package / coupons / deals with a big spread of guns / ammo and 'value'.

But if you want to shoot a semi-auto shotgun, a sniper rifle, a 22lr AK/ AR glock9mm, HK45 or similar etc then pick your ranges. This one has a 25m indoor range and claims to have 50m distance but I didn't see it when visiting.

Instruction was decent and safe, but you need to grab ear-muffs as soon as you arrive since before you walk in the door it's pretty loud from firing and you need hearing protection pretty quick and there is a rack of ear-protection 5m from the entry.

It was a lot better than the gun range I went to from street hawkers on Bangla road near Patong beach, they had UMP45 semi-auto SMG and packages but the range was terrible, small (10-15m) but air conditioned.

Kathu had the .223 Remington bolt action which made most of the negatives bearable but the refusal to package or discount when we spent in excess of 15k+ Baht was a bit of a sore rub.

The .44 magnum revolver was pretty much broken and wouldn't cycle the rounds on the cylinder to the firing pin and required the gun to be manually cycled and handed to me each time for firing which wasn't great when paired with the eye watering money and lack of packaging when experienced on a whole but the lack of options and better range made it okay but not the best.

I'd shot a lot more a lot cheaper where I come from but couldn't shoot the semi-auto rifle / shotguns at home.

All the pistols worked and I could shoot 50 rounds for the price of 25-50 rounds here. But again, 12 gauge-semi and .223 with optic made the juice worth...
