It's a local Thai market, not a tourist place. The veggies and fruits are super fresh and cheaper than supermarkets. Some of the stalls are selling fruits and veggies right out of the fields. Again, it's for the local folks who live in this area, especially the Burmese community and Thai Muslims. One of the few places left in Bangkok to buy Betel chew if you turn your teeth black and spit red. It has everything I would ever need on a daily basis except western food. Very little English spoken. The sanitation is suspect in places, it floods easily. I personally don't buy meat or seafood here, but that's me. The prepared foods are fine. Probably the chickens are too where they are killing them on the spot and the fish, I'll probably grab one to see. Expect to see guts and smell stinky things. It's all good and most people smile and are friendly. If you want to get off your western high horse and see how Thai folks live, get off at Phra Kanong BTS take a North exit and walk about 200 meters SE. There is also a ferry boat on the canal, a separate story. Visit my Instagram, wildalaskaken_official for loads of photos of...
Read moreI came here to kill some time while waiting for my husband to finish his appointment. If you are a foreigner looking to visit a local market, this is the real deal. It is not picturesque and a little dirty in some places. But it has a great variety of local foodstuff, clothes, bags, shoes, makeup and hair accessories. Prices are low and more often than not marked out clearly. So you won't be overcharged here because you are a foreigner. The clothing and accessories are low quality and basic, as befitting the low price tag. For instance, you will find lots of slippers and sandals, but no heels. There are some dresses here but they are not the fashionable stuff to take a photo in. That said, there is a good deal of good stuff, like t-shirts, shorts, shirts, men's pants, children wear etc. I also found a good copy bag for 150 baht. This market has a few Burmese eateries too. I had a bowl of Shan Noodles at 50 baht and it was really good. The only downside is that the menu is only in Burmese, so I had to use a translation app like...
Read moreMy friend recommended me to go there for the Bamboo and Ratan handicrafts. You can reach there with BTS and a healthy walk. I came by motorcycle through Soi 71 and Soi 2. Looks a bit messy but this is the local Flair and people are all very friendly. The Bamboo and Ratan shops are along Sukhumvit Road at a lower level road which is also a u turn. Nice stuff but also bulky to bring on a ane back home. The overall Pra Khanong Market is substantially big with wey market and sections for clothes and household. In the fish and meat market section we found a public toilet for 3 thb which was sick and span. A lady at the door keeps it super clean. Hardly to find anywhere else. By the way we did not come across any farangs...
