this is the best boat noodles place i have eaten at yet since being in thailand. not the typical side of the road eating, its more like in a walkway between 2 buildings which only people are walking through while the front is near the busy road. 1 man army by he is attentive. he actually gives more noodles than most places will. the broth is fine but i had to add another big scoop of chili flakes to make it the right spice. the only thing stopping from getting a higher score on the food scale is the cuts of meats used in the bowl. for example like the cuts of beef or pork they use on the meats skewers would go great in it. overall still solid solid 4 outta 5. i'm definitely repeating. downside is having to walk 20 minutes to get there from where i am at.
ok so i went back here on the day of the earthquake (28 march 2025). anyway i eat here 3-5 times a week and i have done enough reviews but today there was something different about the boat noodles. i do not know if the guy cooking is reading the reviews or not, but the noodles he used today was perfect. not chewy or rubbery and just slight pressure from biting the noodles to break it in half. it felt like i was eating the same noodles from back in the states. 4.5 out of 5 stars from me this day. i have yet to try the khao soi since the 1st time and not sure i want to give it another shot when i know the boat noodles will not disappoint me.
Well, on April 9, 2025 is the 1st time the boat noodles let me down. It had that melon or patato slice in it which he never added to the soup before which was surprising to me. The flavor of the broth was not there today. Almost on the bland side. 2.5 stars on this day.
On 25 April back to 5 stars. Was very flavorful again. I even praised the dude on the way out. I am thinking once in a while his wife makes the broth which when I saw her there last time it didn't taste that good and it had that vegetable that might be a slice of potato or some melon in it. I am glad it tasted like how i wanted it again.
24 july i went to give his khao soi chicken another try (only 3rd time eating his khao soi since i been here) and finally it taste great. this day the broth tasted more balanced. can taste the sweet (not overly sweet like previous 2 times), some spice, and some saltiness. i definitely will give the khao soi today 4 stars. to some probably 5 stars because the flavors are so balanced.
went back on 26 july to make sure the khao soi chicken i had was not a fluke from on the 24th and it was excellent again. i will have to revise my overall taste of both khao soi and boat noodles to 5 stars. both 60 baht each which is excellent already and go the the back where the water dispenser is and grab a cup and ice from the cooler and theres your drinks. sometimes the lady there will bring it for you without you asking for it.
september 20, 2025. so i had to delete some old reviews and just want empathize on a few things. i think they really do read reviews and just want to be better. i have yet to have the fake pork pieces in a long time now. now when i order boat noodles it has pork balls and pork slices and very good balanced flavors. so this guy really wants to give you a balanced great meal. again he gives a lot of noodles compared to other places. you will get your moneys worth here.
i have been there when locals would praise him for having very good flavorful dishes there. i am half thai/lao/raised in america so i can understand different flavors. when locals give him props then he is doing something right. i believe he reads the reviews. he used to use like imitation pork chunks, but he has not used that for over 2 months now as far as what he puts in his boat noodles. now every time i get boat noodles for over 2 months now it has been real pork slices and the meatballs. for 60 baht (a couple of bux) compared to if i got the same 2 dishes in america which would be around 14$ this...
Read moreAnother addition to my ongoing khao soi quest. Situated in a side alley walking distance from Phra Khanong BTS. A one man operated stall which was already open on a Sunday morning at 8am. The broth was lighter colored than most I've tried. If you've traveled and eaten extensively in Thailand you'll learn to expect very robust, heavily seasoned (and sometimes too salty) food. It therefore came as a pleasant surprise to find this rendition not so heavily spiced and with a strong coconut milk flavor. A perfect way to start the day rather than go straight for...
Read moreGreat North style noodle shop located in the street, the teast is very North style witch is quite hard to find in Bangkok area. the prices are very cheap and the quality for the food is amazing. I think they only open in the morning to lunch time so go in the early time or it will be closed. would really recommend coming here and get some Khao Soi, and some herbal drinks. best local noodle...
