I found out about this from a story in the Bangkok Post. Unfortunately they were light on details about how to get there. parking is even more mysterious as you have to hope that you can find a spot on the street and hope that you're not going to get the boot on the car when you return. there are no signs yet, I hope they will be in the future, to tell you what stairway to go up. I tried two different ones each one putting me on the outside edge unable to access. Then I realized I had to go into a small part and then go up the stairs there. I will say it was worth the walking and I thoroughly enjoyed the musical performance on the inauguration day by the Bangkok woodwind quintet which were from Mahidol University. It was wonderful to listen to the beautiful music as a sunset over Wat Arun. Looking in the other direction you could clearly see the modern Bangkok skyline including the mahanakorn building. The only thing that did distract from it was the constant grown-up traffic on either side of the area. There was a good turnout of locals and I would say if you like a good walk it's a great place to go.
The old electric train track beautifully and tastefully landscaped and transformed into a garden sky walk across Chaopraya river! Once there, you can enjoy the magnificent views of the river on both sides, in addition to a nice stroll back and forth from both ends of the bridge. Most plants along the walkways are marked with plant names. There are also long concrete seats on either side of it for you to sit and enjoy the sights of what's going on both on the streets and the river below. Though it may not be designed as a work-out place, but it's highly recommended as a place to chill out, especially in the morning or evening (a Thai band also plays on a mini stage up there, probably on weekend evenings, but check it out again). The downside is the bathrooms are not there. There are not-very-well maintained ones at the foot of the bridge. The parking can be done along the kerbs nearby, or in the car park of a few temples in its neighborhood.
Set over the Chao Phraya River, the 280-meter Bangkok Sky Park connects the Bangkok and Thon Buri sides of the city’s main waterway, and is built on the concrete skeleton of the unfinished Lavalin Skytrain, a mass rapid transit project that was abandoned under former prime minister Prem Tinsulanonda. The elevated park is due to open today today (24 June) and welcomes visitors from 16:00. Designed by N71 Architect, the architectural firm behind the Chulalongkorn University Centennary Park, the green pedestrian bridge is situated between the traffic lanes on the Phra Pok Klao Bridge. It features a lush and scenic walking route that overlooks the river, and a jogging path from King Prajadhipok Park in Phra Nakhon and Chaloem Phrakiet Forest Park in Thon Buri. The project is similar to the now scrapped Garden Bridge project over the River Thames in London.
It is the renovation of the original structure of Lavalin rails, which was incompletely built in B.E.2527 (1984), to become the sky park with the passenger lifts, walkways, and bicycle lanes crossing the Chao Phraya River linked with commuting system of Thonburi side and Phra Nakhon side. The size of the sky park is 280 meters in length, 8.50 meters in width with 0.80 meters setback distance from the driving lanes on both sides of the Phra Pok Klao Bridge, and the height measured from the ground level is 9 meters. Under the policy of Thailand's Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-Ocha, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (MA) has been assigned to implement the renovation project since BE. 2561 (2018). This project will be finished in June BE. 2563 (2020).
The new elevated sky park built on the old abandoned electric train structure, located in between another 2 bridges, is now open where you can come in to stroll, jog, do light exercise, take selfie or sit back at the park to enjoy the scenic panoramic view of the Chaophaya river on both sides of the park. The best timing to watch the sunset is around 5:30-7pm. The park is now open every day until 8pm and admission is free. Note that there is a lift available for the elderly or wheelchair bound persons on both ends. You can get here via either MRT Sanamchai or Samyod station and walk for another 20-30 minutes.
This one the probably the best spot to sit and chil watching the sunset during the weekend. It is the small sky park built on the old rail line that has never been finished. I recommend visitng this sky park during the weekend to avoid exhausted gas from many vehicles crossing the bridge. During the weekend, there are several groups of musicians playing songs along the walkway. The problem is the entrance sign is not visible from the area, making it quite hard to get there. The right way is to firstly enter the small park under the bridge (North side) so that you can see the entrance.
