Somdet Phra Sri Nagarindra The Princess Mother Memorial Park
This Is a nice and pleasant park. New and well maintained
Nearly 100 years ago, a young girl who was then a daughter of a goldsmith, but would later be Her Royal Highness SriNagarindra the Princess Mother, lived in a small rented house behind Wat Anongkaram.
This was the first home that she could remember, and a school near Wat Anongkaram was the first school she attended.
Her Royal Highness Sri Nagarindra the Princess Mother, who was affectionately called "Princess Grandmother" of the Thai people, remembered in great detail this simple home in a mixed community of several ethnic groups and religious faiths.
Her son, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, wanted to honour his mother on her eighth 12 year cycle (96th) birthday by preserving her childhood home; but unfortunately the house had long ago been torn down.
Luckily, when Mr.Dang and Mr.Lek Nana learned of the search for the house, they donated a 4 rai (0.64 ha) plot near the original home. His Majesty the King decided in 1993 to renovate this plot, once the home of Chao Phraya Sriphiphat Rattanarajakosathibodi (Pae Bunnag), Director General of the Royal Cargo Department during the reign of Rama V.
Many of the older buildings, from the time of His Majesty King Rama Ill, has been converted into a museum on the life and work of Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother and on the neighborhood where she first grew up. A replica has also been built of her parent's house where she lived are a child while the grounds have been developed as a community park where a variety of activities are held for people of all ages of the neighborhood and...
Read moreThis is one of the most prettiest places I have ever visited. Read up on King Rama 5's children which should be Rama 6 who had a short life and this is his wife's area she grew up in. She met her husband at MIT in the States whilst she was studying nursing and him a doctor. There are two small buildings dedicated to a museum displaying a lot of family photos and explaining them. A MUST. However it is difficult to find and you need to research hard to find the place. I caught the BST to Wong Wian and jumped in a taxi. Lucky I had a map to give to the driver as there are a lot of back streets involved and the driver didn't know where it was even though it was within a 5 minute drive. It is also used to educate school children. I than walked to the river which is also five minutes away and was a nice walked through paved laneways to the ferry terminal and travelled across the river. I didn't have a clue where I was at is not a tourist area but catching a taxi...

We found the Princess Mother Memorial Park completely by accident – and what a serene discovery it was. Tucked away from Bangkok’s hustle and bustle, this peaceful and lovingly kept garden feels like a sanctuary. The entire space is dedicated to Somdet Phra Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother of King Rama IX, known for her modesty, deep compassion, and tireless social work, especially for Thailand’s rural and mountain communities.
The small museum and traditional-style buildings give quiet insight into her life and values. Everything about the park seems to reflect her gentle character: unpretentious, nurturing, and full of grace.
Entrance is free, and there were barely any other visitors when we went – a true hidden gem. It felt like walking through someone’s story, carefully preserved and shared with deep respect. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a meaningful, peaceful stop during your...
