Alanya Castle and Damlatas Cave are two popular tourist attractions located in the city of Alanya, Turkey. Here's some information about each of them: 1. Alanya Castle: Alanya Castle, also known as Alanya Kalesi in Turkish, is a medieval fortress situated on a rocky peninsula overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The castle dates back to the 13th century and has a rich history. It was initially built by the Seljuks of Anatolia and later expanded and fortified by various civilizations, including the Byzantines and the Ottomans. The castle complex covers a large area and includes several impressive structures such as towers, walls, gates, and a citadel. Visitors can explore the castle grounds and enjoy panoramic views of the city, the harbor, and the coastline. Inside the castle, there are also a few interesting buildings, including a mosque and a Byzantine church. 2. Damlatas Cave: Damlatas Cave, also known as Damlatas Magarası in Turkish, is a natural cave located near the city center of Alanya. The cave was discovered accidentally during the construction of Alanya Harbor in 1948. It is renowned for its unique atmosphere and therapeutic properties attributed to its microclimate. The cave's interior features stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and other rock formations that have developed over thousands of years. The air inside the cave is rich in humidity and has a constant temperature of around 22 degrees Celsius, with no variations throughout the year. Due to these conditions, it is believed that the cave's atmosphere can be beneficial for people with respiratory problems, such as asthma. Damlatas Cave is open to the public, and visitors can take guided tours to explore the cave while learning about its geological features and historical significance. Both Alanya Castle and Damlatas Cave are significant landmarks in Alanya, attracting tourists from around the world. They offer visitors a chance to explore the city's history, culture, and natural beauty.

You have multiple options to get to the castle ruins at the top. We decided to take the cable car at 15TL (about £2.85) return ticket. It gives you a nice view of Alanya and saves a legnthy trek up the hill. Once at the top of the cable cars, you will have a brisk walk up a steep wooden path at about quarter of a mile in legnth. My number 1 advice to anyone of any ability is to wear suitable footwear (trainers/closed toe shoes) and to take plenty of water. You will get to a peak (first part of the castle) and it will feel as though you'll be going down hill from this point. If that's the case, you've only just completed the first part of your trip. You will encounter a small street with a couple of nice shops, keep going a little while longer and you will come across the most quaint and peaceful 1000 year old Mosque. Take your time to rest, have a drink and visit the mosque if you wish. They are very welcoming and are more than happy to show you their place of worship. After resting up, head down the end of the road and take a right. This part of the path is why you need good shoes. The footpath is an arrangement of uneven rocks and steep inclines, please be careful. Once you get to the top you've hit the castle. From memory it cost 20TL £3.80 for entry to the castle. The views are amazing and well worth the work to get to the top.

Alanya Castle is a captivating historical marvel that transports you through time. Perched majestically above the city, the castle offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. The well-preserved walls and towers reflect centuries of history, providing a fascinating glimpse into the region's past. Exploring the labyrinthine pathways within the castle is an immersive experience, with each step unveiling archaeological wonders. The Red Tower, a prominent landmark, showcases the castle's architectural grandeur. The strategic location affords breathtaking vistas, making it a photographer's paradise. The castle's well-maintained grounds and informative signage enhance the visitor experience. The Ethnographic Museum inside provides insight into the diverse cultural heritage of Alanya. From the towering walls to the mesmerizing courtyards, every corner tells a story. Alanya Castle isn't merely a historical site; it's a journey through the ages, blending the charm of antiquity with the allure of panoramic beauty. The blend of history, architecture, and scenic vistas makes it a must-visit destination, offering a captivating escape into the rich tapestry of Turkish history.

A Timeless Fortress with a Modern Twist Writing a review for a 1,200-year-old fortress might seem unconventional, but allow me to offer not a complaint, but a recommendation. I suggest ascending to the fortress via the cable car (75 lira for a one-way trip at the time of writing) after 4 PM. At this hour, the heat begins to wane, yet there's still ample daylight to enjoy a leisurely exploration. While the old market, albeit reconstructed, might not hold much allure beyond its commercial offerings, the other historical sites within the fortress are genuinely captivating. Be sure to visit the Citadel, where entrance is €12 (payment only accepted in lira). Note that the western entrance closes at 6:30 PM. Take your time to traverse the Citadel, basking in the panoramic views at sunset. As dusk settles, exit through the eastern gate and make your way down to the port, enjoying the descent through the fortress. You may also consider a separate visit to the Red Tower and the shipyards. This historic site is highly recommended for a visit!

Entrance fee is 20TL for an adult, which is a bit pricey and not really worth it. Not much of the original buildings are left and the historical atmosphere is kind of ruined by all the wooden paths. It feels like the focus is entirely on the view which admittedly is amazing but I went there for the historical value. The walk from the cable car stop via the castle and the mosque was really nice. Unfortunately, the last part was very difficult because builders who were laying wooden paths had effectively blocked the way with tools and material and didn't seem to care to move it when they left. At least some kind of warning should be given about the condition of the way to the citadel as it is right now. Older people or people with young children will definitely struggle to go there because of the condition of the path. Very few toilets available within the area which is surprisingly bad for such a big tourist destination.

Most of the castle was built in the 13th century. The castle was built on the remnants of earlier Byzantine era and Roman era fortifications. After the area was pacified under the Ottoman empire, the castle ceased to be purely defensive, and numerous villas were built inside the walls during the 19th century. Today the building is an openair museum. Access to the seaward castle is ticketed, but much of the area inside the wall, including the landward castle is open to the general public. The castle is located 250 metres (820 ft) high on a rocky peninsula jutting into the Meditteranian Sea, which protects it from three sides. The wall which surrounds the castle is 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) long and includes 140 towers. 400 different cisterns were built to serve the castle.[1] In 2009, city officials filed to include Alanya Castle and Tersane as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and they were named to the 2009 Tentative List.[
