No signs up to the restaurant, impossible to find. We had to use Google maps and get one the phone with a restaurant staff to get descriptions. No car goes up to where the restaurant is. The stairs are angled and unlit. The actual dinner was a disaster in a gorgeous packaging. The view is the only reason to be here. If you go in the evening to watch the sunset, do not order food until the sun actually sets because you will not even be able to sit at your table due to the swarms of bees wanting a bite of it. When you point it out, you're told there is nothing they can do. They eventually took our food away to bring it later, which was put in a waiter cabinet out in the open. Fish. Just sitting for 45 minutes in 37 degrees in a closet. The staff was rude, snarky and acted as if we were inconveniencing them by being there and ordering food. When we requested they replace our orders which was riddled with bee bites and had been sitting in a drawer for 45 minutes in the heat, they were not pleased. They do not warn you about bees because they want you to eat (thus have to pay) and leave asap so they can clear the table and have someone else. Probably why we were told both their coffee and tea machines were broken and they couldn't offer us either after our meal. Additionally, the restaurant is not decked. Tables are placed on packed earth and because the dining areas are arranged in levels you could be sitting next to a meter high wall of earth and having the people eating on the level above you unknowingly sprinkle dirt onto your table every time they move their feet. This is a place for drinks. Not for dining. This is a place for able-bodied people looking for a quirky place with a good view. It is not accessible. It is not welcoming. It isn't efficiently run or conscious of its flaws, hell not even inclined to acknowledge it has any. I will not be going back. There are other restaurants in the Citadel with much better service, equally amazing view and way more accessible. It was a total...
Read moreWe had high expectations for Gardenia Restaurant given its stunning location and lovely ambiance. The view is truly incredible, the atmosphere was charming with tasteful background music and even live music when we arrived. The food also looked visually appealing.
However, the experience quickly turned disappointing. Despite reserving early and requesting a good view, we were seated at a small circular table that proved impractical for even basic dining. The table was too cramped for both drinks and food, forcing us to awkwardly maneuver items around.
To make matters worse, the table was positioned right along a busy staff walkway. Staff were constantly rushing past, even brushing into our seating, shaking the table as they moved with heavy steps across the wooden floor, seriously affecting the calm atmosphere.
Service felt rushed and disorganized. We received our appetizer before drinks had even arrived, waiting over 30 minutes from arrival for our beverages. By the time we got them, the garlic bread was soggy and cold. We were also expected to reuse the same cutlery for the main course.
The main dish was overcooked compared to the requested doneness, and during the meal a staff member attempted to take our table’s atmospheric lighting to give to another table, which disrupted the experience further. We declined, but the moment still felt unprofessional.
We hoped dessert would end the evening on a high note, but options were limited, with little information provided. The panna cotta was average and inconsistent in portion size between guests.
In the end, we left with a large bill and the memory of a great view, but unfortunately,...

We were looking for a place to have a dinner and enjoy the sunset for several days. We came across Gardenia for its view and a beautiful atmosphere, which is so rare to the local restaurants. Gardenia completely acceded our expectations!!!
the atmosphere of deep enjoyment and relaxation thanks to the breathtaking VIEW and RELAXING IBIZA-LIKE (Cafe Del Mar) MUSIC
DELICIOUS FOOD ranging from pizza to fish dishes
HUGE VARIETY OF BOTTLED WINES and cocktails
extremely POLITE AND ATTENTIVE STAFF
I can’t say that it was the cheapest place to stay but it was worth every cent! A dinner for three with one shrimp starter (3 shrimps), two huuuge Caesar Salads, Fried Fish and two courses of cocktails and glasses of wine costed about 60€.
That evening we enjoyed with almost every our senses and we can’t wait to come back again!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! SEHR EMPFEHLENSWERT!
P.S. Make sure you book a table in advance. The best way to reach the restaurant is by cable car. Gardenia is located 5-10 min walking distance from the...
