SIMPLY A DISASTER.
A DISASTER. Nothing to say in positive way. You buy your fish and they advise you a restaurant to cook them for you, saying that the COOK WILL COST YOU 60 TURKISH LIRA PER PERSON. Till now all is fine, fish are fresh and prices are affordable. You pay for the fish and go to the restaurant, and here the TRAGEDY starts. If you chose to eat a COMBINATION of fish like we did, you will get ripped hard, even very hard. So, we bought fried fish, barbecue fish, Salomon, calamari, octopus and shrimps to share being four persons; plus, salads and French fries and cooked fresh mushrooms and drinks. The plus is from the restaurant. The surprise is when you get the invoice, Each Shared Plate Was Billed 60 Turkish Lira for Each Person, even if you taste one bite, and when you objected there is nothing to do, they will tell you that those are the rules in all 9 restaurants they do cook for the fish market. Conclusion is; the person selling you the fish don’t tell you that the charges are per each plate and you’ll get a bill 10 times more than the price of the fish you bought. If you really insist to try this place, chose one plate per person and do not try to taste from your friend to avoid getting...
Read moreGood idea, terrible execution. The only thing that it's as you imagine is that you buy fresh fish from a local seller at a reasonable price for EU standards, quite expensive for Turkish standards. There is a lot of variety and if you buy them to cook them at your home then this is the place to be. After you buy them the fisherman will either send you to a restaurant of his choice or an owner will lure you to his restaurant. After that you have put your destiny in their hands. After you sit the fisherman will probably cut in half the portions you bought. Then the owner will try to sell you overpriced meze and salad without any price menu around. But let's say you are lucky and smart and you just buy your fresh fish, take them yourself into the kitchen so noone steals from what you bought and you don't buy something from the restaurants and you just pay the fee they charge for sitting there (60 lira/ person). You will be happy to receive the worst cooked meal of your life. Overcooked from the outside, uncooked on the inside. There are a lot of better options...
Read moreFish market is must see and experience. Located in the heart of old Fethiye center. It's super busy during high season. I came here once for fish night at Xmas, it was much less crowded but nice atmosphere . The live traditional Turkish music singers browsing around tables, excellent seafood/ meze selections. There are many restaurants to choose from and be prepared to hassle and select one you want not to be pushed to. We went to Mercan balik restaurant, l was happy there before. You first select your choice of the fish and seafood. To those sensitive to smells of fish l would not recommend this place, just FYI. It's fish market and in summer months smelling fish is expected here The seafood is sold by the weight. You pay it first and choose how you want to prepare it. Than meze dishes , sides etc. The food was delicious at this time. Last time we had hamsi. They weren't fresh. Very good service, accommodating and friendly. But if you are non smoker you may suffer here because tables are very close and lots of...
