**Shopping in Kadıköy, Turkey: A Treasure Trove of Affordable Finds** Kadıköy, located on the Asian side of Istanbul, is a vibrant district that combines historic charm with a modern, cosmopolitan vibe. Known for its cultural richness, bustling streets, and welcoming atmosphere, it has also become a go-to destination for shopping enthusiasts. What sets Kadıköy apart is its exceptional variety of goods offered at significantly better prices compared to many other parts of Istanbul or Turkey in general. ### **Why Kadıköy is a Shopper's Paradise** 1. **Wide Variety of Shops** Kadıköy is home to countless boutiques, markets, and stores catering to all tastes. From trendy fashion items to unique handmade crafts, you can find something to suit your style and budget. The diversity here ensures there’s always something new to explore. 2. **Street Markets and Bazaars** The Kadıköy Market is a highlight for locals and visitors alike. Famous for its fresh produce, spices, and traditional Turkish goods, the market also offers affordable clothing, accessories, and homeware. On specific days, the Salı Pazarı (Tuesday Market) becomes a hotspot for bargain hunters, with vendors selling everything from textiles to vintage treasures at unbeatable prices. 3. **Fashion at Affordable Prices** Many independent clothing stores in Kadıköy stock high-quality, stylish items at prices much lower than those found in Istanbul's more tourist-heavy areas like Sultanahmet or Taksim. You’ll also find unique designs that aren't mass-produced, allowing you to bring home something truly special. 4. **Antique Shops and Bookstores** Kadıköy’s antique shops are a hidden gem for collectors and history enthusiasts. These shops, nestled along the quieter streets, offer vintage items, rare books, and Turkish memorabilia at reasonable prices. 5. **Shopping Malls and High Streets** For those who prefer a more modern shopping experience, Kadıköy also boasts several shopping malls like Tepe Nautilus. Additionally, the district's main streets are lined with brand-name stores offering seasonal discounts, making them competitive with major malls in Istanbul. 6. **Handmade Crafts and Souvenirs** If you’re looking for authentic souvenirs, Kadıköy’s artisans offer beautifully crafted ceramics, jewelry, and artwork at prices that are often better than those in tourist-dense areas. The authenticity and quality of these items add even more value to your purchase. ### **A Budget-Friendly Culinary Journey** Shopping in Kadıköy is incomplete without indulging in its culinary delights. Numerous cafés, bakeries, and street food vendors serve delicious Turkish dishes at affordable prices. Whether you’re craving a classic simit (Turkish sesame bagel) or a hearty meal of mezes and kebabs, Kadıköy has you covered. ### **Why Prices are Better in Kadıköy** Kadıköy’s relatively local-centric culture means it avoids the inflated prices often seen in tourist-heavy areas. Many vendors cater to Istanbul residents rather than visitors, ensuring that prices remain fair. The competitive nature of Kadıköy’s markets and shops also encourages sellers to keep their prices reasonable. ### **Tips for Shopping in Kadıköy** - **Bargain:** While prices are generally good, bargaining is still an accepted and encouraged practice in markets. - **Bring Cash:** Some smaller shops and street vendors may not accept cards. - **Explore Side Streets:** Don’t stick to the main roads. Often, the best finds are hidden in less crowded areas. **Conclusion** Kadıköy offers an unparalleled shopping experience for those seeking high quality at an affordable price. Whether you’re looking for fashion, souvenirs, or even a bit of history, Kadıköy ensures you get value for your money while soaking in the district’s vibrant atmosphere. Kadikoy Bull Statue (Kadikoy Boga Heykeli) Bull Statue in Kadıköy is one of the symbols of the Asian side of Istanbul. It is located in Kadıköy Altıyol (Six roads in Turkish), in the middle of an intersection that connects six roads -Altıyol- and it makes the Kadıköy Bull Statue one of the busiest meeting points in Istanbul.

Interesting story of the Bull Statue in Kadikoy The journey of the Bull Statue in Kadıköy is a very long and interesting one. The bronze statue was made by famous-French sculptor Isidore Bonheur in 1864 and erected in a square in the French territory of Alsace-Lorraine commemorating the French victory against the Germans. However, several years later Alsace-Lorraine territory was taken by the Germans in the early 1870s and the statue was moved to the capital of the German Empire.

During the First World War (1914-1918) the German Empire and Ottoman Empire were allies and German Kaiser Wilhelm II sent the Bull Statue to Ottoman general Enver Paşa as a gift in 1917. In 1917, the Bull Statue was erected to the Yıldız Palace, but after the loss of the First World War in 1918 Enver Paşa fled both the empire and palace. Therefore, the statue was abandoned for years.
