I visited Aziziye Hamamı during a short stay in Istanbul, and it was exactly what I was looking for – an honest, old-school Turkish bath untouched by modern spa trends. The place is raw, historic, and very local. You feel the history in the worn tiles, old marble, and the heat that’s probably been rising through those domes for over a century. The staff are direct and don’t waste time on pleasantries – I appreciated that. The scrubbing was thorough and left me feeling cleaner and more refreshed than I have in a long time. If you’re after a real, unpolished experience and want to feel part of something authentic, this is worth it. But if you’re expecting soft towels, relaxing music, and customer service smiles, look elsewhere. Learn a few Turkish words, accept the chaos, and go with it. You won’t regret it.

This picture is from a rainy summer day, taken at the entrance of the place which has been open since Abdulaziz's last years in the 1860s. It is a small, clean detail for relaxation activities. As far as I know, 7 days it remains open until 19.00. I usually visit on Mondays to avoid a possible crowd due to its narrow chambers. The ceiling is characterized by circular and tiny windows, and the heat is reasonable most of the time. The people here have expertise on the subject, and the prices are reasonable. In modern daily living conditions, most visitors can easily skip a trip to the hammam, but everybody I recommend was pleased with the results. One of the most enjoyable things you can do in Kadıköy on any given day.

It was a fantastic experience just what u was looking for: a decent authentic Turkish hammam (bathhouse) experience that you are treated like a local. The place is quite nice and clean but now new (which I like), once you enter you’ll be guided to small personal locker room to undress and put the thin fabric towel on you. Then you go to the dry sauna to get ready for the scrub, which was the nicest part, followed by the soap wash. There is little massaging involved but you can ask for more if you pay extra. After all that is done you are on your own and free to chill around and relax in the common marble rooms! Highly recommend if you are in the area.

This is a Hamam where locals go. I wanted to experience the authentic Hamam with body scrub and soapy massage. The staff does not speak English, but I got the message by the gesture at every step of the service.

When I entered the facility, I pointed at the service on the wall: Hammam + Body Scrub + Soapy Massage. I was escorted to the changing booth where I took off my clothes and put on the cloth around my waist. Then I was escorted to the Hamam, the steam bath, where I stayed about 15 minutes. There was another customer before me, and I gout out of the steam bath and watched the customer before me getting worked on.

When this customer was done, another massuer came to work on me. I was scrubbed on my back, chest, belly, and legs first. When that was done, I was escorted to the platform where I got the soapy massage that took another 10 minutes.

When that was done, I went back onto the steam bath and sauna, where I stayed another 10 minutes. When I came out, I was asked if I was finished. I was then asked to change the waist wrap into the dry one. I then returned to the changing booth. Yet another massuer came and wiped my body down and gave me another set of massage. For some reason, I felt tired after the massage. I was offered a bottle of water, and my treatment was complete. The massage was a bit rough to me, but some people prefer that. Overall, the experience...

Before reading all negative comments, come and experience this Turkish mix of massage, bath and sauna.

Venue Info: Open from 7 to 22. no English, though people going here know some. 600TL for hammam + 200 TL tips for massage. towels, soap, flippers provided, water for 20 TL

Experience: There is no schedule for activities. Once you’re in, you will get a towel, put your things to a locker, undress.

After the first doors there is a place for bath and scrap, go further. After second door there is warm resting place (not a WC 😀)with a stone for laying down. Go further to sauna. Enjoy it for max 15 mins; there’s a sand timer.

Come back to the resting place, use available water bucket to cool off a bit. You can repeat it or wait for the masseuses.

They will find you, don’t worry :) . In the bath area they will soap you, scrub and wash you. It takes few minutes of firm experience. That’s the local part of the exp.

Then take a cold shower and go back to sauna, to the resting place repeat how many times you want. Max time 2hrs.

Enjoy!

Good to have : a bottle of water, clean underwear, you don’t want to wear the sweaty one after such experience! flippers if you...

I had my experience today, and it wasn't my first Turkish hamam experience. I could understand the fact that no one speaks English there, but I speak a bit Turkish so I would really appreciate it if they could at least show me step-by-step on what I needed to do - which they didn't. So I was left waiting for a few minutes not knowing what to do.

Even worse, when I entered the hamam area and there was a boy around 5 years old with his mom doing hamam there. If I understand correctly, it should be a women only hamam.

I don't know who to blame, whether it was the staff at the hamam or the mom who would dare to bring his little kid to a hamam. I don't think anyone thinks it's appropriate to allow a little boy to see some adult ladies who are strangers getting around topless without consent like what happened to me.

Honestly, I wouldn't want it to happen to anyone else so 1 star from me as it was the worst hamam experience that I've...
