Rather small sized park in the centre of Kyiv, situated between backside of Shevchenko University, Subway Station "University" and Lva Tolstoho & Petlury streets. It is botanical garden but bigger part of it is limited availability scientifical area - opened for group trips in selected days and hours (check Photo for info). Its biggest advantage is spring time when all those flowers blossom, especially lilac - it is magical place then (like other, bigger botanical garden in Kyiv). Other awesome thing about it in my opinion - it is small, quiet place in the absolute centre of the city - i often enter it in the middle of the workday to chill 5-10 minutes and drink coffee, to read book in the end of the day or just arrange business meetings inside to walk on the fresh air and discuss work matters. This quitness totally distinguishes it from Shevchenko park which is at the other side of Shevchenko University - both park are like 50 metres away from each other. There is small and simple playground for children inside but we rather choose Shevchenko park playground for a walk with our 4 y. o. Daughter (its bigger and has more children on it). Disadvantages - small size, bad for running (to hilly) and dark if the evening (which could be advantage for romantic place seekers :) - check...
Read moreI thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this botanical garden. However, I could see only plant houses and everything outside is covered under snow. Stated with tropical house having plants of Madagascar and Asia, especially India. I could see here some medical and spice plants. Garden has tall glass house of about 26 meter. There are 2 trees, one gymnosperm and another palm as tall as 26 m. Best among the houses are cactus house with large collection of cactus and succulents. They are proudly say they have more than half of world's cactus. Next is 2 aquatic plant houses, one is circular and another one is rectangular in shape. Although there was not many plants due to winter, in one them about 50 species of insectivores plants were growing. The aquatic plant tank had different depth for different species of plants. Rain water is harvested in to the tank. It was a amazing experience in the botanical garden. Staff are highly knowledgeable and cooperative, but can speak only Ukrainian or Russian, translator is...
