Ohh... It's the most beautiful place I have ever seen in the capital of our wonderful country. If you want to relax - go there, if you want to have fun with friends - go there, if you want to make a date with your girlfriend/boyfriend - go there. Firstly, there are a lot of coffee shops where freindly baristas making tasteful coffee. There are many places for just having a meal or just chilling out with your friends. There is a beautiful restaurant, where you must to taste the most delicious steaks for not a lot of money. Secondly, I strongly recommend you to go there when it's dark and you will have the opportunity to see the Red Building of Kyiv National University. It's...

The park at the upper end of Monastyrsky Island merits another entry because of how much is squeezed into such a small space.

One of the first things you’ll see is a Ferris wheel and a kitsch Soviet-style amusement park aimed at the smallest members of the family.

Turn left after the bridge and you’ll be at a statue of Taras Shevchenko.

This 19th-century poet is considered a Ukrainian Shakespeare for his lasting impact on the Ukrainian language.

And lastly, on the city side of the park is a dramatic man-made waterfall, built under the cross.

According to legend St Andrew stopped at this very place during his voyage along the Dnieper in the...

A nice park with some quirky things, like giant chessboard and giant chairs to sit in. There’s a restaurant selling traditional Ukrainian food and some kiosks selling coffee, pancakes and ice cream. Popular with students from the University next door. If this park isn’t your thing, then head next door to the botanic garden, where you’ll find a less manicured area in which to relax or go for a stroll.

The nearby metro station makes this a handy place to visit. There’s even a museum of Soviet art across the street, for those who enjoy looking at paintings of manly farm labourers, miners and wholesome...

Nice park in the city that is a tribute to Shevchenko. While I was there, they were showing an American comedy (I think it was Grown Ups 2) with Ukrainian dubbing. I grabbed some ice cream from one of the many vendors in the park, snapped a couple of photos and enjoyed the cool summer evening. The one picture is of Kyiv's accommodation for people in wheelchairs. This is one of the nicer ones I have seen, though all of them are just too steep to be safe, I would think. Some of them are just metal "skids" that are placed on top of the stairs. Not sure I would ever push my grandma up or down one of these.

It's a delightful little park adjacent to the Taras Shevchenko National University, which is itself a large multi-columned building painted a rather striking red. Festivals, vendors and street performers frequent the park, and I've not been here when it hasn't been filled with local families and couples relaxing and conversing. On the western side is a nice Ukrainian restaurant called Opanas. It's done in a style reminiscent of a Ukrainian village house and has a tree in in the center. Maybe a little kitschy, but friendly enough.
