Favorite Uncle — Restaurant in Kyiv

We was there yesterday and came there after pretty good reviews from our friends. Unfortunately, for us that was pretty bad experience and we will never come again here. At first our reserved table wasn't free and we was asked to sit to other table. For our company of 4 people it takes to pull together 2 little tables to sit all together. We was told that we will get our table in time, however, after 1 hour we was said that they couldn't give us our reserved table. Food was just good. Okroshka was too salty and warm salad of roasted vegetables was just good, nothing special, especially for it price. It takes like 1.5 hours to serve us all our food(1-2 dishes for person), while cocktails was served in 5-10 minutes. No water was suggested. Waiters was behaved like our table wasn't existed and never come to us, we was forced to ask them every time (for example, table near us was served like in 30 minutes after they've come, even when people sit there like 20 minutes later then we've ordered our dishes). From the good points: all ordered drinks was pretty good and tasty, administration was hard trying to somehow smooth the impression of restaurant, all the interior inside and outside just awesome. Overall: that was one of the worst impressions from restaurant like in last 2-3 years. From restaurant of such level and quality I've expected something more than serving 2 dishes for 1.5 hours. For that prices in menu it should be really better customer care. 2 stars only because of administration who really cares, on all other points it was more like 1...

The cool Uncle you never knew existed!

I visited on Christmas day 2021 and unlike most European countries, it was a normal day for Kyiv and Ukraine

Service was really 'above and beyond', and you can tell it is borne out of consistency. I was greeted by two front of house employees who initially got me a seat at the bar with a 15 min waiting time but then seated me at a spare table 3 minutes later. Surely downhill from there? I think not. I was served by 'Gregory' who actually gave me an unprompted tour of Uncle's establishment. A lovely touch, I noted a decor that celebrates the best of the East with small hints of Eurasia in an old Soviet style apartment block

The food was delicious. I ordered the salad, with extra chillies as a starter, and lamb kebabs as a main. The salad was fresh and spicy, with the kebabs succulent, well done and served with a tomato salsa and three freshly baked flatbreads that Uncle recommended to use as wraps. Not one to shun such advice from my now favourite Uncle, I duly used the salad and the salsa to create kebab wraps to give me the Arabic food hit that I needed

Despite being full, I had to satisfy my new Napoleon cake addiction and I was rewarded with the best Napoleon cake in all of Kyiv

If I could make one suggestion, I would humbly ask Uncle to put some Arabic style tea or cardamon coffee on menu to help digest the well presented yet hearty cuisine

A great restaurant and fully deserving of 4.7...

I came here for breakfast with my sister because I’d heard a lot of accolades about this place and because I am also a fan of Middle-Eastern cuisine. First thing I noticed was the atmosphere at this restaurant. It was very cosy and friendly like you really came to see your favorite uncle)). The food was also pretty good. They had traditional breakfast meals on the menu. Pretty simple, but delicious. I ordered shakshuka and my sister ordered tacos with salmon. For a drink I ordered a raspberry whipped tea. It’s always interesting to try new things. Because we were visiting the restaurant for the first time, we got a complimentary gift from the restaurant lazy varenyky. What I didn’t like is that it’s located on the first floor of the multi-story apartment building which doesn’t add to the esthetic look of the place, consequently there is lack of sunlight over there. Actually, it’s a very dark place which is a huge disadvantage to me because one of the pleasures in my life is to start a day observing sunrise. For this reason I always choose a table by the window. I enjoy to observe cities waking up. However, the interior was awesome. It would be great if one day they move to their own beautiful building.
