Alhamdulillah this mosque is a good place, but I must honestly say the imam is making a serious mistake. He regularly makes the salah unnecessarily long, especially Maghrib, by reciting very long surahs. This is clearly against the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
In Sahih al-Bukhari (702) and Sahih Muslim (466), the Prophet ﷺ warned: “When any of you leads the people in prayer, make it short, for among them are the weak, the elderly, and those with needs. If anyone prays alone, he may pray as he likes.”
The Prophet ﷺ even became angry when an imam made the prayer too long for the people. So dragging out the prayers is not just inconvenient, it is actually going against the clear instruction of Rasulullah ﷺ.
