This was my first visit since reopening and although pleased I visited, I left feeling a bit underwhelmed. I remember visiting here before the revamp when it had a lovely tearoom with glass floor exhibit and it presented a quaint old house to explore. Now they have gone super modern, getting rid of the tea room, painted over the glass floor exhibit and added a lot to a small space. This museum is beautiful inside and out and is great to explore with each room offering a range of interesting exhibits for adults and interactive activities for children. They have added throughout these mannequin heads that have a light show projected on them which although visually lovely I didn’t quite get. Still, it’s nice that they are trying something unique. There are a huge variety of exhibits, some connecting you to the building and its history and others just providing local or international themes. You start with super modern but also delve into the past as you walk around each room. It’s definitely worth a visit but where I struggle is would i return? Probably not unless they rotate their exhibits but pleased I went and would...
Read moreThis museum is not to be missed! Not only is the building itself worth the walk through but the information about the people who hail from Aberdeen and their accomplishments blew us away. The sheer amount of innovation that has come out of this city is astounding!
But my absolute favorite part of the visit was getting to meet Karen, one of the docents there. She was so friendly and just an absolute WEALTH of information on all of the “must sees” in this region! She was so very kind, promptly pulled out a paper map, started circling all the places she wanted to send us and then went on to tell us what foods to look for and how they tied in with Scotlands history. Truly Karen, you were a blessing and we’re ticking things off the list as we speak! :) See you next time we’re...
Read moreOne of the coolest (if not THE coolest) museums I've ever been to! A great place to take kids. The museum is very interactive, with games, activities, and things to listen to, watch, and touch. It's very hands-on history! But you will also learn about physics, medicine, engineering, fashion, literature, and language. The house itself is also gorgeous, incredibly well-preserved and bigger than you'd expect. You can definitely spend a few hours here if you'd like, to read everything and interact with all the activities.
The staff here were incredibly kind. Not only did one docent give us a great introduction to the museum, but when we were finished, she gave us a long list of other places she thought we might enjoy in Aberdeen. A really wonderful...
