We went here because it was raining and we arrived at the beginning of a live show. They welcomed us very nicely and we were allowed to watch the show before we even paid! They showed several guns from the 19th century and explained the differences. They then even tried them. The staff was also dressed up and it was really interesting. The lady behind the reception was also very welcoming and very polite! She pointed out the exhibitions and made time for us to ask her about several things. They also had lots of games for children. My brother and I did the small quiz and I have to say that it was easy to understand. (I could translate the question and he then took off to find the particular item). They had lots of material from both world wars but also from several other wars GB was involved in. I was positively surprised to see that they also covered the end of the second world war.
A small extra, they also have a piece of the Berlin wall! All in all, the museum is top and you can see the dedication and love in...

I would go as far as saying it is not accessible for anyone who walks with a cane or suffers from some breathing conditions (COPD etc) as it requires walking up two full fights of stairs to access the reception. Once there there are plenty of seats and the exhibitions are good, there are lots of uniforms for kids to try on and other bits for the kids to get involved with. There are further displays on the next floor up (again you need two full flights of stairs needed to access).
In summary it is a small museum and to keep the kids amused you really need to go on one of the days when they are running a craft in the downstairs area. However if you are all alliedbodied, have kids 8+ or an adult who just loves history then it is...
Read moreVery knowledgeable curator, absolutely fascinating and much bigger than we were expecting. Could have stayed all day. The interactive bits were really good and the detail and research in the trenches and great war rooms was particularly impressive. Not easy with a wheelchair (although granadad managed the stairs between floors and we carried the wheelchair up and down so we were ok) but fab that you could bring your dogs (met a number of other dogs there too). Clipboard with sheets for the kids to find stuff and fill in was a nice touch too and trying to play a bugle was harder than expected!...
