Found The Weavers by chance on google when we where staying in Bodmin on Holiday last week.
We called to make sure they could fit us in for food and that they had a kids menu as we had 2 young children, luckily it was a yes to both but they didn't start serving food until 5pm which was fine with us. We arrived and were seated at our table at the back area of the premises which was fine.
Parking was perfect near the pub, about 2min away there is a large car park (next to the bike hire) which is FREE parking after 4.30pm, although they don't advertise this on any signs.
The pub had lovely decor with candles on each table etc which adds to the atmosphere and felt like a traditional English pub which felt very welcoming.
After scanning over the menus for 15min we were handed another menu which had been printed that day with various additional dishes on them. There was a good selection of meals from Starters to Deserts and we opted for Fish and Chips and Hunters chicken. The kids had fish and chips and a fish cake with fries.
Food arrived after around 20min which was perfect as we had 2 very hungry kiddies. The fish cake ordered for our son, I found was over cooked and instead of golden it was more on the dark brown side, we took all of the breadcrumbs off it and be just eat the inside, so no reason for us to complain. Our daughters fish and chips was very good, she loved every bit of it. My only issue with the kids food which for us as parents is a no no is the fact they'd added salt to the Fries, just don't feel they needed too. The wife really enjoyed her Hunters chicken and it looked fantastic. My fish and chips was ok, loved the crushed peas to go with it but the tartare sauce tasted much like mayonnaise and just didn't have any other flavour apart from Mayo. Fish itself was nice and well cooked.
With the food all finished and plates ready to be taken, we did feel as though they wanted us out, whether this was the fact that we had an inquisitive 20 month old with us who wanted to explore and wave at other tables I'm unsure, as the chap took out plates he asked us if we wanted the bill although me and the Mrs both had half of our drinks left. I explained we would wait 10 min but quickly finished my drink and asked for the bill as didn't feel comfortable.
So why the 3 star, well with the nearly burnt fish cake and the pressure to sip up and get the bill paid, I had a dreadful stomach ache all evening after the meal, food was fine when eating and I eat 90% of my plate but something just didn't agree with me that evening. Overall we didn't have a disastrous visit just a few minor issues which amounted to...
Read moreMe and my family visited on a Sunday afternoon, of was rather quiet with only another two tables in. We both had the Sunday lunch, me just having one meat ( turkey) which was very juicy and tasty which is hard to achieve with turkey as you can imagine from many Christmas dinners at home. My partner had all 3 meats ( turkey, beef, pork) he said the beef was tender and not dry. He found the pork tasty and not dry, which again is sometimes really hard to achieve. With both our roasts we had plenty of veg, and one Yorkshire pudding. We ordered an extra Yorkie each ( instant regret once they came out..please see picture on why 😂🤦♀️) and stuffing each which was delicious and made from sausage meat. Our only issue with the food was the roast potatoes could of been cooked a little longer to get more crispy. We both also ordered deserts, should of got these to go as we was both so full from our roasts we had to really engage our desert belly's to enjoy the deserts. I had the warm brownie with ice cream and my partner had affogato, both very delicious but struggled to finish due to eating so much roast dinner. The atmosphere was pleasant, was quiet and relaxing with some music playing slightly in the background. The staff where pleasant and helpful, as we share our food with our daughter and made them aware when ordering they brought out a small side plate so we could put some food on for her, they also provided a children's menu which had a colouring activity with some crayons so she was entertained. For a pub/ restaurant is was a very nice place to eat and would highly recommend this. The prices for the food were a little on the higher side to what you would expect from a pub, but completely worth it. We will be returning again, maybe to try something different.. although I may just go for the...

Great pub. Was somewhat quiet due to the time of day so I've had to guestimate what the atmosphere would be like when it's busier so I've given 4 stars for that, everything else gets a 5.
Drinks were spot on, as was the service but what we really went in for was a spot of lunch and this is where the review gets a little one-sided because there was a standout star of the show.
I've got a weak spot for a fish finger sandwich. I don't know if it's the kid in me refusing to accept that I'm old(ish) or whatever but as soon as I see anything remotely close to a fish finger sandwich on a menu I go back to a time when life was simpler. No bills, no boss, just fun and games. A fish finger sandwich and the A-Team on TV, joyous times.
Low and behold, there it was on the menu. A fish goujon sandwich. Not quite Captain Birdseye on boring, white bread but that's cool because I'm older now, my tastes have changed and I'll happily trade paying bills and the other boring stuff of growing up if it means getting a "posh" fish finger sandwich every now and again. I get the simplicity of my childhood and a more mature bite to eat at the same time. The question is, how nice would it be when it arrived on my table..?
Good grief, this place pulled something out of the top drawer. Spot on, absolutely spot on!
If you like the simplicity and the comfort of piping hot fish between 2 pieces of bread and you're in the vicinity of this place, well, you know...
