Early evening visit on Friday October 8th and what a find for two real ale lovers! A cosy, characterful and convivial inner bar with a real fire and a splendid range of ales, all very well kept by the landlord and bar team. We enjoyed the Butcombe's and Jail Ale that night. Although busy, the welcome from the bar team was genuine and friendly and there was lots of eye contact, smiles and nods from the local customers as we went in, which was so lovely and refreshing. Instantly felt 'at home'. What was intended to be a one pint 'pop in' turned into 3.5hrs stay and only the call of our stomachs called us away as at present the pub doesn't serve food, otherwise we would have been there until throwing out time! Our thanks to all for a memorable experience and in particular to Eric and Keith for engaging with us in lively conversation - lovely people. The shame for us was it was an overnight stop only but would highly recommend to those who love good ale and good company. So, please do seek this gem out and join in...

So we came here for food after Google and trip advisor both recommended, don’t think they got the memo about food no longer being served! Regardless we stayed for 2 rounds and it was the most fascinating place we’ve been to! There’s a taxidermy lion in the back garden, we’ve never come across one in our lives so this was a surprise! It’s a beautiful place with lots of fascinating and quirky things all around, the toilets were very clean and there are lots of drinks to chose from. The red haired lady who served us was just fantastic, we never caught her name but she was just brilliant, really friendly and welcoming! We’re local and we can’t wait...

What a gem of a find! We were a group of 8, a mixture of kids and vegetarians and we couldn't have been made more welcome. Bar staff were very friendly and accommodating made us feel right at home. The locals all had a chat with us too. After we got the drinks in the lady chef came down to talk through the menu, what a lovely lady! My husband went for the super fresh mussles and the rest of us went with tapas, there was not a single morsel of food left uneaten! Delicious and highly recommend the Thai curry! You have to give this place a try- extremely good food and lovely warm welcome, thanks for a...

There are quite a few criteria that qualifies for a perfect pub; good beer (obviously) membership of the Cask Marque Ale Trail (an optional extra) good food, a convivial atmosphere, a congenial host, affable patrons, cleanliness, an interesting history and good Covid compliance (a necessary contingency at the moment) and happily this establishment has all of them. Highly recommended by this reviewer who, as those followers will avow, has much experience in this affinity group

Lovely quirky dog friendly pub. When we walked in we were made very welcome by the Landlord and his staff. It has a great friendly atmosphere. There is a good selection of real ales. The Landlord is very knowledgeable about his ales and keeps a decent pint. I went for Jail Ale. We will be back next time we are in Bodmin. If you're ever in Bodmin and like real ales and a friendly atmosphere then the Hole in The Wall is the place to be
