Lovely museum in some huts , a bit hidden, behind a aircraft hangar but good sign posted. Unfortunately I read๐ the date to visite the museum as in just once a month on Saturday not to good.๐คทโโ๏ธ There I was, coming all the way from Holland travelling over 850 miles๐ฃ and bringing an 80 years young friend from Knutsford with me. Knocked on the door and a old lady kindly greeting us and said that the museum was closed and not accessible to day. As I saw a few people moving around behind the windows I remarked that to the lady. Also explained the reason why I came over to visit the museum. But the lady didn't let us in ๐คทโโ๏ธand refused several times as in telling me I didn't read the website properly.๐คทโโ๏ธ
So we went to Blackpool very disappointed but never mind.
So for the enthousiast WWII visitor read๐ the website before you come.
For me this was once in a life time vistit to be able as an invalide retired coming up this way.

ย ย ย Read moreI had a very enjoyable experience yesterday (January 2023) I really didn't know what to expect, as it was a birthday present from my partner, and I was worried that I had not had a scrap of experience. I didn't need to worry. Andy, who is very passionate about the experience, went through the flight plan and the controls and put me at ease by taking over the controls if necessary. The flight was an hour long, followed by a brew biscuit and a debrief. I was also shown the combat mission and asked if I wanted to have a go. Age (I'm oldish ๐) and experience doesn't matter. Allow 2 to 2hr hours, and dress warmly if going in the winter months. It was excellent value for money, and I highly recommend this experience to fulfil a lifetime dream or just to experience flying. it does both.
I have also been to the museum before, which is also a worthwhile visit. I could have spent 4 or 5 hours here listening to all the knowledgeable staff of volunteers. This...
ย ย ย Read moreThis is fantastic. It's run by retired volunteers who really put their heart and soul into it. They are polite, very knowledgeable, accommodating and ever so slightly cranky in that old guy way. There are no less than five planes fitted into a period hanger in a state of ongoing restoration along with a fieldful of ammo old engines bombs and other memorabilia. The guided tour lasts ages as you are passed from old geezer to old geezer, each having his own style and area of expertise. They've got plenty to say and are very patient with questions. The tour lasts a good while so it may test the patience of younger children. All of this for a tenner. PS. You can sit in a spitfire and have your photo taken by a loved one for an extra fiver. Why would you not?! Solid, friendly, slightly tatty value in these days of stupid prices....
