This place holds great memories for me when I was a kid, and still has magical places to be found. with over 600 acres of rolling parkland and woodlands there's plenty to see. Starting at Blaise Castle house and museum, a fine Georgian house which has a museum on the lower floors, displaying kitchen and cookware from times gone by. There is also an area where children's toys and the like are displayed, the whole thing is representative of a well to do Georgian family home. Years ago, there used to be a large children's paddling pool opposite the main house, allover no more than 6 inches deep, but on a sunny day, it was great fun. Next to the pool is a large sandstone alcove, this is a folly, and said to be the favourite resting place of local mythical giant's Goram and Vincent. If you walk around to the rear of the house you will see a massive greenhouse, that would have supplied the household kitchen, with all manner of exotic fruit and vegetables. past the end of the greenhouse there is a gate ( now locked ) that leads to a large pool, which was full of goldfish when I was a kid. Next to the pool is a small thatched roofed building, this was the Buttery, which supplied the main house kitchen with fresh milk, cheese and butter. Take the path down into the woodlands and eventually you will come across the old watermill that in the olden days would have been used by local farmers and bakers, where wheat grain would have been ground into flour, and no doubt would have also supplied the kitchen in the main house. The actual Castle which is a folly can be found about a mile along the park, just before you get to the plantation, and up and around the woodland path to the top, when you get there you'll be greeted by a magnificent castle folly, surrounded by a small park area and woodlands. If you walk over to fenced cliff edge, you will be rewarded with some wonderful views, the trees continue into the distance until they meet the sky. Only one very small fault, is that the parkland grass could do with cutting a little more often. ps if you find this review helpful, please...
Read moreGrowing up next to blaise castle estate you can't not miss the house as it stands at one end of the estate... Been in side lodes of times as a kid.. Hanging around out side as a teenager playing football or Frisbee... Or just chill out chatting in the sun... Now in my late 40s I don't go there much.. as the teenager's that hang around there aren't very well behaved.. Takeing drugs and riding stolen motor bikes around the house and estate and getting angry with people who tell them to leave.......
