First off the jalapeno cheese balls were unreal easily the best I’ve ever had. They had this perfect crispy crush on the outside with a gooey spicy cheesy centre that was just banging. What made them even better was dipping them in the tartar sauce. That combo slapped hard. I’d honestly go back just for those
The cod was really well done. Big white flaky pieces cooked just right not dry not soggy just proper fresh fish. The chips were nice too not too greasy with a good balance of crisp and fluff. The tartar sauce itself was actually amazing full of flavour and creamy but the portion was tiny. Seriously they gave me the smallest pot possible. Most other fish and chip shops give you way more
Now for the not so great bits. The curry sauce was a complete letdown. Probably the worst I’ve had from any chippy. It had this weird tangy taste and the texture was off kind of like baby food but worse. It didn’t go with the chips or fish at all. I took a couple dips and had to ditch it
And the salt and vinegar situation wasn’t much better. I asked for a decent amount but what I got was more of a light sprinkle than anything else. It was like someone just waved the salt over the food without actually committing. The lack of seasoning left everything tasting a bit plain which was a shame because the quality of the food underneath was clearly there
Reel Soul definitely has some highs especially with those cheese balls and well cooked fish but they need to sort out the sauces and stop being stingy with the extras. Would I go again Yeah but I’d skip the curry and bring my own vinegar...
Read moreI don't know what happened there but it was a complete disaster. I am uploading some photos and will try to be factual. I chose this place as they position themselves as a sustainable place. The tartare sauce was packaged into a small plastic container which I do understand is a necessity as where else would they pack it in but this plastic container was squashed inside the boiling hot chips and had melted in the heat and completely distorted. We all know that plastic, when hot, releases microplastics and harmful chemicals so it was quite upsetting to see it. Would be much better if you just include that tartare sauce in the pack, no need to bury it inside boiling hot chips and fish where it starts to melt. chips were massively undercooked and soggy, photos speak for themselves in this department. I could not eat them. the tiny fish was buried under a massive pile of chips my chosen fish was haddock - there was barely any fish inside the generous batter, again, photos show it. I have not removed anything from that particular piece of fish, just uncovered the huge amount of batter and took a photo of how much of fish there was. the curry sauce was absolutely not edible, it was super hot the only good thing in the order was your peas - they tasted fresh and lovely all of the above for £35 including delivery fee for 2 people? I ate perhaps 1/4 of my portion.
Wow, I do not care how sustainable you are, I will never go back. I do not want to waste food because of poor cooking skills. And I do not want to have some partially melted plastic in my...
Read moreAfter reading the reviews I genuinely thought that I was in for a real treat, unfortunately that was not the case. The chips were as dry as hell. Usually chips come out of the fryer, and then go into the compartment that keeps them hot and you end up with chips that are not soaking in oil but glistening with oil. The chips I received looked like they had sat in the heating compartment for over an hour and were dry and looked shriveled up. THE haddock had the thinnest coating of batter I have EVER seen. In fact the coating of batter was so thin that you could see the skin of the fish through the batter. The garden peaks had obviously been introduced to a potato masher, it was obvious to see that they had taken garden peas and tried to mash them! Tip: just purchase proper mushy peas. The peas were thrown in the bin, they looked disgusting therefore I was not eating them. The homemade chip shop curry sauces was strange, did not taste like the chip shop curry that I am sure many of US are used to. It actually looks like carrot and coriander soup and has the same consistency, I didn't eat much of that so the majority of that was thrown away. For saying a piece of fish costs £8.50 these guys need to do A LOT better!!!!!! THE two stars that I gave were for the size of the fish and the prompt delivery but in all good conscience I cannot recommend these guy's and I for one will not be ordering food...
