Hobgoblin — Restaurant in Bristol

Having not been to the Hobgoblin for a few years, I thought it’d be worth a shout to meet a friend there who hadn’t been before.

Unfortunately there was a mess regarding serving of our burgers. This was between ourselves and another table. They were misplaced and then the waiter thought I had the wrong one from the kitchen. When he came back, the waiter then realised my friend had my burger and he had already started eating it!

I then had to cut some of the burger away and I had no time to wait for another - we had waited over an hour for it even though we had the first booking time of 12pm?!

The burger itself (for what I could actually eat) was massively underwhelming. I used to love the Mephistopheles burger!

Tragic times. I felt like I had wasted my money and was left feeling hungry.

We had paid for the food on order, had full glasses of drink and were running short on time as the next table would be required within 40 mins at that point. Being asked for a replacement burger or another drink was pointless for these...

Great pub with the dirtiest fries!

Hobgoblin is a great pub to go for a drink with friends, always lively with good atmosphere.

Always get the dirty fries, absolute beast of a portion, definitely a 2 person job and SO filling and so tasty. First time trying one the burgers on the menu, whilst it was good and I can have no complaints I would probably only get the dirty fries in future.

The atmosphere is always good but it has to be said last time I was there the music was just too loud, not normally a huge deal but when you're with friends trying to have a chat it can be tricky!

I gave the service a 3 out of 5, this is based only on my last visit, usually it is better. It just seemed to take so long for food to come out even though it wasn't busy, when it did we then had to wait for cutlery to come out, also my friends order was wrong so they had to wait even longer for their food!

Staff were all friendly and have no complaints in that respect at all.

really sucks the write a review like this but it just wasn’t the best… we’ve gone to the hobgoblin before and absolutely loved it… the food has always been great but service really failed us this time. we went at 19:30 ish and it wasn’t massively busy, it seemed like there was only bar man on but he was just so hostile when we came there. there was an empty bag on crisps on the table and my friend brought it up to the bar just too clear it… granted this can be annoying but he snatched it out of his hand and said nothing.

when the food came we had waited 35 mins for nachos i understand if the kitchen is busy but the chef came and delivered the food? he was lovely, charming but seemingly nervous which made us think that we had obviously annoyed the bar man to the point of not surving us. it was just a bit of a weird experience. the food was incredible though… and we are so thankful for the chef bringing it.. but can’t help to think the barman...
