GREEK HOUSE SOUVLAKI — Restaurant in England

We have been looking forward to eating some Greek food for sometime as it’s been some months since we were last in Greece.

We saw the menu on line and that our three of our favourite Greek meals were on their list, tzatziki, koquinisto and moussaka. I asked the waitress if their koquinisto was similar to stifado to which she said yes. I then thanked her in greek to which she said that she was Romanian so had no idea what I said.

The tzatziki came out as a starter and was excellent, I was very hopeful for my main course.

The koqinisto came out and I thought I had been served the wrong meal. There were three small chunks of beef in an ochre ish colour sauce with chick peas and something else in it and topped with incredibly salty feta cheese ( feta cheese on koquinisto? There’s a first for me!) No sigh of a tomato base and no shallots. I left it after a few mouthfuls. Nothing even remotely similar to koquinisto, or stifado.

My wife’s moussaka she said was the worst she has ever had and there was one of the layers in it like cardboard.

I told the senior waitress how disappointed I was when she asked and it was only really an ‘oh dear, that is a shame’ response.

They charged us the full amount,

I will not go again and recommend to others that they seriously consider elsewhere based on my experience there.

Rude and disappointing! We went previously when it had first opened and loved it but now it seems like a completely different restaurant! No one greeted us at the door to seat us, so we awkwardly strolled through the restaurant until we could find a member of staff. We were then told we hadn’t booked(we had, I had to show her the evidence on my phone like an interrogation) and so we had to have a standoff with one of the waitresses in order to get our table(they didn’t get us a table, they gave us a spare table which they made very clear was “their table” as if it was a favour to us seating us). The food came out lukewarm, the chips just seemed like cold potatoes! No one asked if the food was okay, or if they can help us with anything. We asked if we could have some sauces and we were told they would have to charge us for it, understandably we ordered the sauce, but we then came to find out they served ketchup and mayonnaise, so they tricked us into buying a sauce we didn’t even want. It felt very awkward being in the restaurant and as if they didn’t want us in their restaurant. I will not be returning to the restaurant and if I could go back in time, I’d spend my money at desperate dans kebab van, half the price yet they’re twice the quality...

Doubly disappointing! Tried to order a takeaway just after it opened. Order placed but no delivery within two hours. Subsequently tried to contact by telephone but no response. Ultimately (after three hours) went to restaurant where we were told that order was not ready! Went elsewhere where order provided promptly and politely.

Second attempt last weekend - having previously booked a table (a week in advance) with waitress taking down name, address and telephone details arrived at restaurant only to be told that they did not have our booking! They advised that our table would definitely be available in 30 minutes. Returned in 45 minutes (to give plenty time for table to be available) was told that table still was not available and would be at least a further 10 minutes (albeit without any guarantee). When asked if they knew what name the table was under they stated that it was in the bookings book! Either the original booking was there all the time or they were not interested in delivering the service they were professing to offer. Once again went elsewhere. Simple warning to others trying to book a table - make sure that you get written confirmation of your booking or be prepared for disappointment. Customer service...
