This was an appalling experience. We had high hopes for this place as it had featured on square meal as a good GF restaurant. Our table was in the lounge part in the back. It was quirky and quiet but that meant we didn't see the waitress much. My main meal, fish tacos, smelled odd in a very bad way. And tasted even worse. And I was extremely ill afterwards. The side dish was aubergine tempura which was basically tiny bits of aubergine coated in some sort of batter and deep fried. My daughter's mushroom tacos wasn't much better. The wedges were the only thing that were nice. No one check on us to see if everything was okay with our meal or else I would have said something. As I was with my teenage daughter she was too much in a panic at me complaining. When I paid I did mention it to the waitress about how it tasted so very oddly but she brushed it off as a change of menu and was more concerned that I wasn't leaving a service tip. I did have all the symptoms of food poisoning later that night. A report to Edinburgh's food hygiene department will be going in as soon as I have recovered from this nasty...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had high hopes for this bar, as it came highly recommended & had great reviews.
The vibes of the place were greatāthe staff were incredibly friendly, and the service was on point. It felt like they genuinely cared about making sure we had a good time, which is always a plus.
That said, the reason Iām leaving this review is due to a very unfortunate experience with the Sunday roast. After enjoying our meal, my wife became seriously unwell later in the evening, with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea starting just a few hours after eating. Thankfully, she was feeling better by the next day, but it was a pretty unpleasant experience.
Given how great everything else wasāthe atmosphere, the drinks, and the serviceāIām really hoping the bar takes a closer look at food safety practices. Iād still recommend coming for the drinks and the great vibe, but Iād suggest exercising caution with the Sunday roast.
Iām giving a 2-star rating not to discourage anyone, but as a constructive suggestion. The place was great, and with a little more attention to food safety, I think it could be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe safari lounge is quite an apt name as much of your time will be spent wondering if you wouldn't perhaps be having more fun inside a car looking out at other patrons.
Alongside a mix of entirely normal, friendly young people enjoying their local bar in Abbey Hill there is also a health does of chavs and undesirables who frequent this establishment at all times of the day.
On my first visit I was joined at lunch by two local drunks. The second time I was in was to meet someone already there, we had a couple of drinks as its very good value but then left after getting fed up moving away from smelly people.
The staff try their best but I wonder why they let so many people in who are not buying drinks and wouldn't make it in to other local establishments.
This place is okay at best. Try and go with a group and you won't be disturbed by people looking for '20p for the...
