Read moreThe Lioness of Leith just became my favourite burger place in Scotland. The burgers are outstanding. The meat patti itself tastes great and is of good quality and there are a good selection of burgers of various toppings to choose from. Everyting was cooked fresh, the chips were great and the portions sizes big. We chose a single portion of chips betweens us which was perfect with the size of the burger... they are big. Service was great and the right amount of attentive. I did however visit on a Sunday afternoon so I can't say what the service is like at a busier time. Read moreTerribly disappointing. When the lioness opened a few months ago it was a real delight - an interesting menu, attentive staff and above all fantastic food. To say it has gone down hill is an understatement. My last visit I ordered mussels, a sharing platter of cheese and ham etc. and olives with feta cheese - pretty difficult to mess up for any professional chef. And yet, the mussels were over cooked and in short supply. They were supposed to be in a mariniere sauce but were covered in thick, tasteless and cold double cream with not a sniff of wine or seasoning. The platter was small for the price of £8 and had only small six crackers to accommodate chunks of blue cheese and meat. Not possible unless you like eating roquefort on its own. The olives were the cheapest kind imaginable and came swimming in oil, so every bite had to be drained before eating. Totally disgusting. Apparently it was table service, but I had to go to the bar for a menu, to order drinks and to ask for the bill. Apart from when they brought the food I wasn't waited on once. Really terrible stuff - won't...
