I went to this place after checking it out online and I have to say I was still very impressed, overjoyed at how good it was, even after reading the positive reviews. The service was brilliant, quickly seated, served and sorted by a cheerful cute waitress so big thumbs up from me. The food was delicious, full of flavour, fresh and filling. I'll openly admit I was stuffed after the bread bowl of bacon, sausage and egg soup and plate of pork and potatoes but everything was so scrumptious, well prepared and a delight to eat. Amazing.
The experience didn't cost an arm and a leg either, for being in Leith and serving portions that filled my large belly it was surprisingly cheaper than I expected.
The only two negative aspects, which aren't really negative as much as they are just a couple of things to consider, are that the restaurant is small, or cosy, so I'd recommend booking in advance, although I walked in and got a table no problem so I got lucky. The second thing is that they don't offer ketchup or condiments beyond salt and pepper. However, the food is rich and flavourful so you really don't need anything to pep it up.
In summary, if you are looking for a burger and chips, this might not be for you, but if you are looking to expand your horizons with Polish food, I heartily recommend this place.
I look forward to...
Read moreMy first impression was 5* !! It was quickly destroyed by one of the waiter. I approached the restaurant with one friend, the other two was about to come. We needed to repeat to boy few times, that we require big table, he did not listen and was sending us to the table that we won't fit. We took a seat and explained again that there is more to come (2outof8 tables was occupied). We ignored bad habits of young gentleman and we started again. We ordered some drinks and food and we started the waiting time. Drinks came. We did wait 30 mins for the starter (smalec we order). Trust me I did work in restaurant and sometimes the waiter need to help in the Kitchen. Smalec is prepared in the morning so all you need to do is take out it from the fridge, put it on a plate and ask the Kitchen for a bread. That's it. We finished our smalec in mins. as we ware hungry AF. Another 30 mins. for mains. The tables that came after us, been served before us. When I finally received my food I found a long black hair in my plate. When I asked the waiter about this, he said ,, THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE. NO ONE WITH BLACK HAIR WORKS HERE ''. And after couple of minutes, lady WITHOUT APRON AND HAIRNET with black hair left the KITCHEN. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Read moreIt’s my first time to be in a restaurant / pub serving solely Polish food, though I have previously tried zurek and pierogis elsewhere in Edinburgh. The zurek and pierogis at The Percy tasted good and were better than the ones I had, unfortunately the mains we had were not as impressive.
I really loved the pierogis there, they are traditional dumplings stuffed with cottage cheese and potato with crispy onions as topping. Well made and steamed as the wrappers were soft and elastic. The zurek was strong in taste (savoury sour) which I found quite appetizing.
However the two mains we had - the pork schnitzel and the potato pancakes with beef goulash were just alright to me. The pork itself tasted quite bland, dry and not well seasoned- I understand that schnitzel never meant to be juicy and flavourful, but I did tried better ones in other parts of Europe; the crumb was crispy well fried though. The potato pancakes we had were a bit overcooked, burnt on the peripheries and quite oily - the beef stew and gherkins were definitely needed to make a balance.
I can tell the dishes we had are truly comfort food even I am not a Polish, and people should be easily fond of them. It just didn’t live up to my...
