An amazing view of an amazing city. Totally recommended. No really ... Do this hike. There is a reason why so many people do it.
Went to the Ensign Ewart pub on the mile, (how many hundreds of years has this place been a drinking hole?... 1000 years?, I don't know.), met some locals, they took me out to other pubs, and they had their own flasks too!!!, and I stumbled back to where I was staying. The next day up at 8:00 a.m. and did the hike to Arthur's seat. Not hard, a great way to work off a scotch hangover. Also, go meet the locals... They're amazing. Read moreBreathtaking 360° views of Edinburgh and the surrounding royal park. There are 2 very different level trails to the summit, in terms of difficulty. The main trail is well kept, wide and flat and suitable for most; including dogs and children. The other path (the west side) is very demanding with switchback paths of boulders, rough stairs made of boulders, and dirt paths steep enough it requires your hands. This cliff is a unique geological formation and you can access it from the Grange or from the Holyrood side. You can choose how you want to tackle it, for a great loop, start on one side and cut across and then come back through the city.
These crags are fun to climb on, and pretty safe. Great for kids.
