What a bit of a disappointment. I went here with high expectations after seeing excellent reviews from gp’s to bloggers. It was a little busy which was a good sign but we didn’t have to wait long to be served. The shop is small but nicely designed and decorated. The girl that served us was lacking of a bit of enthusiasm and was a little dull but she did her job well enough. I went with the largest hog roast option with haggis and sage and onion stuffing, homemade sweet chilli sauce and cheese and crackling. So basically the full-shabang! My wife went with the smaller portion with BBQ sauce. The buns are just your basic white or brown rolls. They are very generous with their fillings. In my opinion the hog roast lacked a flavour. It was certainly juicy but I wasn’t blown away by any flavour. It was rather meh to be honest. The best bites were went I got some sweet chilli sauce. I didn’t even get much taste of the haggis which is notoriously flavoursome. As expected it was very messy but that’s not a criticism. My wife also thought her roll was bang average too. Overall it was a bit of a letdown especially at the...
Read moreOMG, OMG, OMG!!!! Well what a hidden gem, walked past this place in the early morning when it was closed, but you could smell the hog being cooked and it smelt amazing. Of course we went back after our visit to Holyroodhouse and it wasn’t disappointing what so ever.
Listen to me people, don’t bother with the over priced food outlets on the Royal Mile, get yourself down to Oink Canongate and get your chops around a freshly baked roll filled with delicious hog and stuffing, believe me you won’t regret it. Oh and wash it down with an Irn Bru lol
We walked in and was instantly greeted with a smile m, the gentleman that served us was so lovely and friendly, I asked if I could take some photos and would if it’s okay to post here in Google maps, which he pleased and said “thank you for asking, as people do t usually”
From the first bite to the last it was still warm and very succulent, the juices from the meat added that extra flavour.
Well worth the money. Would come back here? Hell yes I would, i suggest that everyone come here and support one the best local businesses around.

Read moreOink on Hanover street in Edinburgh is an amazing place to find a spot of lunch. I was out with the family doing the tourist thing, we wandered down the Royal mile towards Holyrood palace to see the Parliament buildings and find somewhere for a bite to eat, when near the bottom we found this building with a small pink sign of a pig outside an otherwise unassuming building. In the window sits a whole Hog Roast not your typical window decoration, but Inside you find the most amazing place for food to takeaway or sit in with. Now being a big eater I chose the grunter (yes corny I know) but worth every penny of the £6.80 I paid. Pulled pork, apple sauce, I chose haggis well worth it my daughter and wife chose to go with stuffing and the chilli jam they also took the smaller rolls called piglets at £3.95 I think are fantastic value, my son decided on the chilli cheese, and then we topped the rolls of with crackling. This place should definitely be on your must visit locations for something to eat when you are in Edinburgh I think I have found my new go to place whenever...
