If you ever find yourself in North Somerset and fancy a mix of stunning views, history, and a bit of pop culture, Clevedon Pier is a must see. It’s honestly one of those places that sneaks up on you with how charming it is.

First off, the history is really cool. The pier originally opened way back in 1869 and was used as a landing point for paddle steamers that brought tourists over from South Wales. So it’s been a seaside hotspot for literal generations. You really get a sense of how important it was to the community and how much effort has gone into preserving it. There’s even a little museum area at the entrance with info about the original Elton family, who were closely tied to the pier’s early days. It adds a nice personal touch knowing this place wasn’t just a structure — it was a part of someone’s life and legacy.

Now for the pop culture bonus. If you're a One Direction fan, you’ll probably recognize it straight away. The “You & I” music video was filmed right here and you can totally see why. The views across the Bristol Channel are stunning, especially at sunset. It’s got that moody, cinematic vibe without even trying. Perfect for a slow stroll and some photos, whether you’re into 1D or just into cool spots.

It costs £5 to get in, but here’s the nice bit — if you keep your receipt, you can come back as many times as you like for the rest of the year without paying again. So it’s basically a season pass in disguise, which is a lovely touch.

Another really touching detail is the memorial plaques on the benches along the pier. Each one is dedicated to someone who has passed away, and reading through them gives the place an even more personal and emotional feel. It’s like the pier holds little pieces of people’s stories. Really lovely and respectful.

There’s a sweet little gift shop at the entrance too. Not just the usual seaside tat either. They’ve got proper local crafts, cute souvenirs, and even some nice books and cards. It feels thoughtful and well curated, not just touristy. You can tell the Heritage Trust really cares about keeping the place special and supporting local artists too.

All in all, Clevedon Pier has this peaceful, nostalgic feel to it. It’s not flashy or over the top, but that’s part of the charm. It’s like stepping into a different pace of life for a bit. Whether you’re into history, nice views, a bit of 1D fan nostalgia, or just a good cup of tea by the sea, it’s totally...

A very beautiful pier. We drove past here on our way to Wales and noticed that we wanted to see the filming location of one of our favorite TV shows. We got there around 3:30 in the afternoon. At first we were shocked that we had to pay to enter, but no matter, we went there especially. When we bought our tickets, everyone just wondered about our cats but didn't mention that only one hour was open. We then set off with the tickets in our arms to the beginning of the pier and then strolled off at a leisurely pace. When we got to the end we wanted to buy an ice cream but were told that it was closed and everyone had to leave the pier immediately. Very disappointed, we took a few more photos and went back. Halfway across the pier, the staff from the pavilion caught up with us and urged us to walk faster. Our cats got scared and kept stopping, where the staff, two women, also whined and stood behind us so that we would move on immediately. We then picked up the cats and went down very quickly. When we got to the gate, we were practically kicked out. I've never experienced anything like that before. It's well known that Heritages has rude employees, but something like this is...

This is the only Grade One listed Pier in England and one of, or if not the longest. It is very pretty to look at with a good viewing point at the far end. A lovely tea room sits here which looks like a chinese pagoda. It sells tea, coffee , cakes etc. There is now a wonderful glass restaurant built very cleverly into the pier which has a good menu and is open during the day and evenings. It is very popular and you may need to book in the evenings. Excellent food and service always. The pier is illuminated at night. One Direction filmed a video once on the pier and you can find the little brass plaque to mark this. Clevedon is a gentle elite town with wonderful walks, views and changing scenery. Some good eating and drinking establishments. Not many hotels or places to stay i think the people of Clevedon want to keep it for themselves.Very good shop on the pier and interesting show upstairs on all its history. You have pay to enter pier but can come and go during the course of the day. Pier first opened 1869 and restored in1989 after part of it collapsed...

My girlfriend's birthday was coming up, so I booked a table at the restaurant for Saturday. The journey from Weston-super-Mare to Clevedon by public transport is not straightforward, but we managed to get there. That day was very rainy, with heavy downpours. However, when we arrived, we were warmly welcomed. The restaurant’s location is stunning. Appropriately named "Glassbox," you can sit inside and watch the rain pour down while enjoying views of the pier. The harbor has survived for a long time, and you can feel the marks of time there. The food was good, though, to be honest, a bit on the pricey side. However, Clevedon itself (or rather the village) is beautiful and welcoming. We were convinced that on sunny days, the town has even more to offer. And on foggy days, when the wind sweeps across the sea, there's a peaceful silence at the pier that you don’t want to leave. Conclusion: You should visit this restaurant at least once in your life. Very friendly, clean, and a beautiful glass box! While eating, you can see the sky perfectly clear!

Due to it being a Bank Holiday, it was difficult to find a parking space, but there was one left by the seafront, which was free for 4 hours. The entrance to Cleveland Pier was also free for that particular day, although you could put a donation in a bucket. Otherwise it is about £3.35 each adult. You can walk through the gift shop, towards The Glass Box restaurant, which do really nice food. Although, it is served in boxes, rather than plates. Regardless as to whether you sit inside or outside the restaurant. Prices are average. They have toilets, but you have to walk down a spiral staircase to get to them. You can view underneath the pier, through the porthole window. Back on topside, you can take a leisurely stroll along the pier, towards the Pagoda Cafe. (I personally would like to taken lots of photos, but there was a constant stream of people). The only negative, was seeing the scaffolding on the pier, but it is there for a reason. But after saying that, it is worth a visit, to see this Victorian structure.

You pay to get onto the pier at Cleveden and it’s worth every penny, not least to protect such a beautiful structure, which could have been lost to the sea decades ago. Your ticket is valid for a year. There is a lovely little shop you pass through that has lots of interesting souvenirs, so well worth browsing. The pier itself takes you out into the Bristol Channel with views of Wales on a clear day, plus all the passing ships. There are a few shelters to protect you from the wind as well as a small shop at the end, all beautifully designed. Along the pier there are plaques, funded by donations to maintain the pier and there’s a website you can use to order one. As well as the views, there is an interesting summary of the pier’s history, including recordings from people who witnessed its collapse and celebrated its reopening. If we are ever passing on the M5, Cleveden pier is always a stop we make as it’s so much more refreshing than stopping at the services. Recommended.
