This is an easy service to and from the beaches of Babbacombe. However, I will always walk while I can and have to say as much as it serves a purpose the pricing is too expensive and should be a lot less. It's well maintained and worth it for those who need it. But please sort out your pricing the pricing really should be to maintain with small profit not ripping people off. As of 2022 the pricing is now 2.20 one way and 3 pound return. Check the last time to leave the beach as if you miss it it is a tough walk back up. If you have walking difficulties or a push chair or wheelchair this is a must use for a return from the beach. To these users it's a 5* all the way

Enjoyable short trip for just a few quid on the vertiginous Babbacombe Cliff Railway down to Oddicombe Beach (coarse sand), then the 5-10 minute walk along the boardwalk path to Babbacombe Beach (pebbles & shingles). The cliff railway is an interesting bit of engineering, and much easier than walking the steep path to/from those beaches. Nice views on the railway but the beaches are small and probably best in the morning, before they fall into the shadow of the cliff. The cliff and beaches may also be of particular interest to geology enthusiasts, and apparently the cliff railway is built along a fault line too.

This is a great place to visit, the cliff railway is particularly useful if you are not so steady on your feet, but if you can manage it, you can either take the stairs or the path down to the beach. I visited in the October half term and was able to park directly outside and it wasn't crowded at all. Lovely beach, lots of collectable pebbles, and if you fancy a swim, it's a great place to take a dip. There are good facilities including toilets for 30p a pop. I took the cliff railway back up to the top, and it cost £2.75 one way but the walk is manageable.

"BABBACOMBE CLIFF RAILWAY"..

A Historic, Iconic, Railway, with recently refurbished carriages that takes the shortest, steepest, quickest trip to the beaches of " ODDICOMBE" + "BABBACOMBE"..

A well used cliff railway that transports at least '136,000 Passengers' of all ages, per year..

The information banner on iron railings adjacent to the 'railway' states that the last service is at 5:30pm/17:30hrs, that 'you might' be queing for up to two hours..?

As you wait for your train you can admire the scenic landscape's of Trees, Woodland Cliifs, Seascapes as far as " PORTLAND BILL", which is 51 miles away, in a straight line..

Go on, take the "CLIFF TRAIN" down to explore the 400 million year old sea coast geological features, which uncover several different rock strata's, woodland cliff wildlife species, that are unique to the location of "BABBACOMBE CLIFF RAILWAY"...

Constructed over 90 years ago..

"BABBACOMBE...

Since the wearing of face masks have been mandatory for those of us who have a genuine medical reason to be exempt the way we have been treated by the majority of society has been less than humane. Unfortunately today I attempted to use the cliff railway and was challenged by the owner to wear a mask, when I advised I was exempt I was asked to leave unless I showed him a pass that literally anyone can download although I showed him the pass I extremely politely tried to explain how his attitude made me feel only for him to ask me to leave embarrassing both me and the rest of my family, unfortunately unlike many people who use this falsely I have a serious condition that is genuinely life threatening and I have come on holiday with my family as this might be the last one I am able too!! Why can’t people just be considerate of...

The rail itself is great and prices are reasonable, however the whole experience was terrible for me, my friend and children as we were in a queue up the hill railway when children needed urgent toilet. After returning to the queue Kristen, who apparently is a manager there ( what a mistake as she has no manners!) refused to accept them as they were not waiting all the time. Although this is an absurd as there is no rule like this written down anywhere and no one was complaining about my friend and children joining the queue, the worst part was that this lady was loud screaming at us and didn't accept any explanation. She didn't ask, she shouted that we all have to queue again in 1h queue. So if you stand in a line, make sure you don't leave for a second as you will be exposed to this...
