I live here, so I am a bit biased. I walk here most days with the dog, and if the tide is out we walk on the beach. The sand is very soft in places and you sink a few inches down, so be aware of this. There are plenty of benches and bins on the promenade to site and enjoy the view. It is kept clean by the local council ( hats off to them for this). I would not say it is a beach you spend the day on with a picnic building sand castles, however, it is a good place to chill out away from the crowds. And dogs are allowed.
