Breathtaking walk from Fylingthorpe to Whitby. Take the X93 from Whitby to Fylingthorpe and get off at the Fylingdales Inn, Thorpe Ln, Fylingthorpe, Whitby YO22 4TH. The bus drive will know it. Walk towards the shop on your right and take the first left down Middlewood Lane. We followed the sign for the Clevedon Way to the Cinder Track and turned left to Robin Hoods Bay. We now know to turn right at the Cinder Track to the Caravan Park and pick up the Clevedon Way there or carry on down Middlewood Lane and turn left down Mark Lane. There are toilets at the main Robin Hoods Bay Coach and Car Park where you will walk round to the right on the road and pick up the coastal path. In general its easy going but expect it to be muddy in places and to negotiate several steps some quite steep and slippery and there are plenty of gates and styles. The walk is approximately 6 to 7 miles and the views are worth the effort. Whitby Abbey is quite the sight as it comes into view and there are steps down into Whitby from the Abbey. You will share space with sheep who will happily ignore you if you...
Read moreGood weather helps when exploring the North Yorkshire Coast as it does anywhere in England. But whatever the season the changing light and colours bring out a very special beauty. Whitby has the glorious Abbey and don't forget to visit the wonderful church just below it. Avoid the crowds go off season to feel the gothic charm. Robin Hood Bay never fails to please and time the tides for some rock pooling and a walk to Bogle Hall or Ravenscar. Staithes my personal favourite has a wonderful arty vibe with a great festival every year. Ravenscar well worth the steep descent to the beach for a glimpse of the seal colony, great sea birds and searching for fossils. Skinningrove has a distinct charm with its vast deserted beach and like all this coast serves the best fish and chips. Sandsend very sweet and popular. Saltburn - great beach and funicular lift up to the Victorian and Edwardian town. Sadly looking a bit jaded but the wrought iron work surrounding the buildings reminiscent of...

Connected back up with Cleveland way to sands end and called in at The Hart Inn for a pint and a warm round the open fire a cosy friendly pub was tempted to stay but carried on by road and joined the Cleveland way again on to Whitby. Final port of call Jolly Sailors pub few pints old brewery beer somthing to eat and back home. A very pleasant afternoon and evening. It's a easy walk apart from the steps...
