The Scenery
The first thing that strikes you about Whitby Beach is its breathtaking setting. The golden sands stretch out against the backdrop of dramatic cliffs, with the iconic Whitby Abbey perched high above, creating a scene straight out of a storybook. The views are stunning at any time of day, but sunset here is something else entirely—watching the sun dip below the horizon is pure serenity.
The Beach
Whitby Beach is beautifully clean and spacious, making it perfect for families, couples, or solo visitors. There’s plenty of room to relax, build sandcastles, or take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline. The gentle waves make it a great spot for paddling, and adventurous visitors can even try their hand at surfing or paddleboarding.
The Promenade & Amenities
The promenade is full of traditional seaside charm, with colorful beach huts, ice cream stalls, and quaint cafés serving up fresh seafood and sweet treats. Fish and chips are, of course, a must—there’s nothing better than enjoying them with the salty sea breeze in your hair.
The beach is also well-equipped with amenities like restrooms and parking, and it’s dog-friendly, so your four-legged friends can join in on the fun too!
Exploring Beyond the Sand
Whitby Beach is just the start of the adventure. From here, you can explore the charming town of Whitby itself, with its cobbled streets, quirky shops, and historic landmarks. Climbing the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey is a must, offering panoramic views of the beach and town below.
Why I Love It

Read moreThis is my second time visiting Whitby. I realised if you stop less than one day in Whitby, a good visiting route can bring you different experience, furthermore to save you a plenty of time and energies. Would like to share everyone one of the best visiting routes that I've found:
There is a car park next to Whitby Abbey on the top of the hill. You can parking your car here (toilets are available near this car park), then walk along with the wall to see the entire abbey, although the wall gradually becomes higher will eventually block your views, it's still a good location to see the abbey near the car park side. Of course, you will see better and closer after you buy the ticket inside the abbey.
After the abbey you will see St. Mary's Church where with the most beautiful ocean view here. After a short break sitting in the chair and enjoying the stunning ocean view, continue walking down the stairs to the old town. You won't miss the lovely boutiques here. Including the most famous Whitby jet and many interesting handmade studios and galleries. Please note that most boutiques are close at 5pm or earlier.
Outside the old town, after cross the bridge turning right to the lighthouses, you can catch the crabs or fishing here, or try a fresh fish and chips or any street seafood to indulge your stamoch.
Finally, you may enjoy to lie on the beach and relax for a while. Visiting in Summer time will meet more...
