This was not the guest house for me. We paid the deposit through Hotels.com and I wanted to clear the remaining balance in advance so I knew everything was paid for. I rang the only number I had which was the landline number morning, afternoon and evening and nobody ever answered the phone. Eventually I gave up. The day before we arrived we got a text saying we needed to bring the remaining balance in cash and post it though a letterbox. According to the instructions in the booking the guest house didn’t accept cash and so I contacted Hotels.com about it and they said they would try and contact the property. Unsurprisingly nobody answered their calls either and they promised to get back to me. When we got to the guest house I actually rang the landline number to see if anything at all would actually ring and all I could hear was silence so I’ve genuinely no idea where that phone connects. We paid the cash into the envelope and posted it through the hole in the wall as there was a sign in the property saying they only accept cash which is not what was advertised. The location was excellent and the room was clean but despite having the radiator on full I went to sleep both nights very cold. Whitby may be the home of Dracula but the only thing that needed bleeding were the radiators. Apparently this is a professionally ran guest house and I would have thought they would keep on top of things like that but as we had no human contact or welcome at any point other than by text I’ve no real clue to be honest. I had a look around and for more or less the same price as we paid here I could have stayed elsewhere in a hotel even closer to Whitby with actual people to speak to, a bar, functional heating and a restaurant. The only real thing I can say aside from the fact the room was clean is that there was a lot of information available about things to do in Whitby. But I won’t...
Read moreThis is now called 'The Whalebone Arch' I would really recommend this stunning little guesthouse. I am being completely honest when I say that it is the nicest hotel/guesthouse in England that I have stayed in,it even beats some of the abroad hotels we have stayed at. The room was lovely, immaculately clean, well equiped with tea, coffee and hot chocolate and something we were super impressed with was that there is a fridge in the room and the owners had provided a bottle of fresh milk and 2 bottles of water which were left inside. Inside the bottom of the wardrobe was a plastic box full of everything you could need during your stay extra tea, coffee, sugars, extra loo rolls, plates, bowls, wine glasses, tall glasses etc . Box of tissues on table . Also in the base of wardrobe was a clock radio and a fan there is a hairdryer and heat pad for straighteners. 2 towel are provided which are really big and so soft ,good quality. In the bath there some complimentary shower caps, soap and shower gel, the shower is Amazing very big, enough for 2 people if you want to save water obviously 😉. There is a ironing board and iron which you can use if need in a cupboard at the on ground floor. The location is perfect for a picturess walk into the town on the way down you will pass Captain Cook and the Whalebone Arch depending on you're pase of walking it is around a 10 minute walk to the start of town, shops, arcades, bars and restaurants. The distance home from town is perfect to walk a big meal you may have eaten 😂. There is parking outside and around the hotel will provide you with a parking permit. We really enjoyed our stay in Whitby at this hotel and if we return to Whitby we will definitely book at the Whalebone Arch again....
Read moreMy sister and I stayed at The Whalebone Arch last weekend. It was our first visit to Whitby and we loved Whitby. |The B&B is on the West Cliff with the town below about a 10 minute walk away. It is a nice walk but anyone with mobility issues would benefit from staying closer to town due to the steps and slopes. ||Positive during our stay:|The Whalebone Arch is very close to the sea and in a lovely position. |There is free parking. |Fresh milk was provided with a box of replenishments such as teabags and plates and cutlery provided. |The B&B was very clean.|The room was refurbished to a high standard. ||The negatives during our stay:|There were a few niggles we found, which I noted were also picked up by other reviewers back in 2019 and nothing has changed in that time. |The room was very cold - it is March and the weather was very temperamental. We turned the heating on and it kept turning itself off. |The bathroom was freezing and the heated towel rail did not warm the room. |The bathroom mirror is very high for some people and we had to stand on our tiptoes to look in the mirror. |The shower pressure was quite low, the temperature could only be turned up to a certain temperature and there was no handrail to hold onto whilst washing. |The TV was up high on the wardrobe and some of the screen obscured. The channels did not always come on. The room would benefit from having a change around maybe the wardrobe should be where the chest of drawers currently is and the tv goes on top of the chest of drawers. ||Overall we had a nice stay and really enjoyed our...
