I joined the leisure centre for the gym and I generally had a bad experience and I'll give you a fair review:
The pros: A couple of the gym staff are really friendly Some of the equipment is ok, but in general it's very dated. The treadmills are better than I've seen in some other places If you hit it at the right time, it's not too busy (avoid evenings and midday weekends basically)
The cons: The small gym isn't worth £36.40 a month. £20 maybe There isn't a lot of equipment and when the gym chavs are in, it's hard to get on what you need One or two of the gym staff have a really bad attitude You have to give two months' notice to leave - who knows what they're doing in two months' time? It's a stupid entry system to the gym. You have to wait at reception to get your card swiped and a ticket stamped with an access code. Sometimes you have to wait a while while they dally around
Overall, there isn't a lot of choice in the area so you're a bit stuck, but there are other options around, maybe centrally in Paignton. I recently paid £20 a month to be at a much bigger and more up to date gym when I...
Read moreMy son has been going to swimming lessons for a while now. He has been moved up to the next group. He would normally go on a Saturday. We waited a week for a phone call to tell us what group he was going into which ment he lost out on a swimming lesson that we have already payed for. When we did get a phone call the only available session for him we can't do as we won't make it over in time after school finishes in Torquay at 3.30 for a lesson at 4 in Paignton. We were told we would get a phone call back. He was going to try and sort something for us. That was 2 or 3 weeks ago now. We haven't heard from them since. 3 weeks worth of swimming lessons that we have payed for and haven't received. To top it off we payed for a swimming certificate and badge a month ago now and apparently that still isn't ready, even though we were told it would be ready the following week. We have now cancelled and are looking elsewhere. I will say though that Sharyn was brillaint with our son whilst he was doing...
Read moreFrom an overweight 44yr old who needed to work on my mental health I started attending the adult rec session on a Wednesday purely because the creche is so good and my 4yr old loves it there. Paul who runs most of the classes is lovely and very welcoming I started with a class, swim and sauna each week just as some me time. Quickly realized it was cheaper to become a member and then thought I would give the gym a try for the first time in my life!! I love it the team are always on hand and will do you a new programme every few weeks, I love the ROC team working in there too it makes everything feel inclusive and caring, The gym itself is excellent and now I'm hooked! This is my last week as my son starts school and I live too far away to justify going but I'm joining a private gym up the road and really plan to go regularly I know they always say excercise is good for you but I never really felt it till now and that's due to a great leisure centre making it possible to access things...
