Updated Review â August 2025: If I could leave zero stars, I would. This is the WORST dental practice myself and several members of my family have ever experienced and I say that without exaggeration. Their appalling clinical work, shocking customer service, and complete lack of accountability should strongly encourage you to go anywhere but here.
I initially left a negative review after being repeatedly let down by missed and cancelled appointments, rude staff, and long waits including one occasion where my dentist simply didnât show up to work, leaving me out of pocket after taking unpaid leave. I was assured by the practice (in a public response) that theyâd âlook into itâ and asked to contact them. I did â on 28/11/2024 â and it's now 04/08/2025. Not a single response. That silence speaks volumes.
I have since moved to a private dentist who has had to replace every single filling this practice fitted. They were improperly bonded, leaking, and causing further decay. My new dentist showed me photos of my teeth where it is clear one dentist from this practice had even caused visible gouges in adjacent healthy teeth â a reckless and deeply upsetting irreversible error. It has cost me nearly ÂŁ2,000 to repair/replace this clinicâs careless work.
This NHS dental provider not only failed to deliver proper treatment, but actively caused lasting damage.
My last âroutineâ appointment was cancelled without notice. I received a text, no explanation, and no follow-up. I had to call multiple times to rebook.
When I arrived for a new appointment, I waited 25 minutes past the scheduled time before asking what was going on. Only then did the receptionist admit the dentist hadnât shown up and hadnât even called to let them know. The receptionist showed zero empathy, even snapping that âyou can go two years without a check-upâ â as if that somehow excused the situation.
Another patient that same morning was turned away due to a cancelled appointment no one had informed them about.
My 89-year-old grandmother was once left standing in the freezing snow outside the surgery for over 20 minutes because staff wouldn't buzz her in during covid lockdowns.
My young nephew was refused an emergency appointment for a week while in pain.
I was left dealing with an infected wisdom tooth for over a year, handed antibiotics instead of a referral, until I was finally sent to hospital. My new dentist called this treatment timeline completely unacceptable.
Communication is dreadful. Reception staff are dismissive. The now-departed dentist I saw regularly was abrupt, cold, and intimidating to speak toâŚparticularly concerning for nervous patients. I donât know whether they are overwhelmed, understaffed, or simply disinterested, but either way, patients are suffering because of it.
And worst of all, when you do complain â even after being invited to â youâre ignored. Just like my calls and emails.
I honestly believe they are prioritising private patients and leaving NHS patients to fend for themselves. The service is completely unacceptable at every level. For your dental health, your time, your money, and your dignity GO ANYWHERE ELSE. AVOID...
Read moreâââââ Update: this was not resolved, after speaking to the head office they assured me they were looking into and someone would call me back. No one ever did. The response below assumes after speaking to the practice manager it was resolved - it wasn't. The practice manager refused to apologise for anything except "sorry you paid the wrong deposit amount, it should have been more". They also asked me to put it in writing to forward to their head office only to then not actually even forward it so that was a massive waste of time too.
Extremely disappointing experience at MyDentist Knaresborough.
My hygienist appointment was cancelled last minute due to staff illness, and I had to reschedule. I then tried to move the new appointment again due to a migraine on my part, and was told on two separate occasions that it was âno problemâ to do so.
Then, just minutes before the 2nd rescheduled appointment, I was suddenly informed that I had violated a 24-hour policy and had lost my deposit â even though Iâd already been told twice that rescheduling was fine.
The reception staff were unhelpful and dismissive. I was hung up on, told conflicting things (including that no manager was available â only to be told later by that very manager that she had overheard my call), and they kept hiding behind vague âcompany policyâ explanations that were never mentioned during the booking changes.
I tried to resolve this calmly and even provided call logs showing I attempted to do everything properly (tried to call when they asked me to, which was before 24 hours but they were closed as it was a weekend), but was met with no flexibility or understanding. A really poor way to treat patients â especially when the mistakes made were entirely on their end.
I now know my rescheduled appointments were outside the terms of their 24 hour period but why let me move them twice and then call back days later?
The worst part is there's not been a single apology.
Avoid this place if you want reliable service or respectful...
Read moreIve just finished a 4 month treatment plan at My Dentist at Knaresborough, i have to say this was one of the best choices of my life, after spending a large portion of my life neglecting my teeth and not taking care of them correctly, they were in an almost unrepairable state, and i put off going to a dentist for about 8 years. Due to embarrassment and thinking that the dentist would judge me and talk down to me.
When i finally felt brave enough i researched my options and chose My Dentist, granted they arenât NHS, but i found the pricing very competitive and after having the treatment i can say in my opinion huge value for money.
I clearly needed a lot of work doing, from extractions to bridge work. Dr Barton and her whole team where brilliant from start to finish, listening to what i wanted to achieve, with no judgement or condemnation. However ensuring that i understand what would be required from my side of things. The whole process was explained to me and costed accordingly. So there were no surprises. Even half way through the treatment another option was presented to me that was cheaper that Dr Barton thought would work better. So it clearly isnt about always going for the expensive option.
Having finished my treatment, i can genuinely saying it has been life changing, i am now able to speak without covering my mouth or curling my lips around my teeth and have noticed a huge difference to my confidence. Everyone involved where amazing, Dr Barton, her dental nurse and the whole reception and admin team. I couldnât recommend them more if i tried.
Hopefully this is my dentist for...
