Having already tried the So Bar in Harrogate, we thought we would be on safe ground going to the one in Knaresborough in order to celebrate my wife's birthday. Unfortunately this was not the case. We do understand that the food is freshly cooked, but two and a half hours from arrival to departure for a three course meal was too long. To add to this we had to share one menu between four, another was promised but never arrived. There was a long delay before our order was taken and this was only after we stopped one of the waitresses.They kept walking past us even when our menu was shut and at one point I saw them all talking at the kitchen entrance. First course arrived quite quickly and was good. We are used to dining out and waiting between courses, but it was so long we found ourselves asking more than once where the main course was. Towards the end we were told there were "just plating up"- again there was a long delay. Most of the food was good, but the lamb was cold. We were so fed up by then we made no comment. We asked for some desserts, again there was a long delay and when we asked about them we were again told they were "just being plated up". When it arrived it was fine. We realise we were there on a Saturday lunchtime and it was initially busy, but by the end of our meal the pub was more than half empty. The service was still painfully slow and we did not feel our complaint was taken at all seriously. I very rarely write reviews, but on this occasion felt the experience was so unpleasant I had to write something. If you would like, in the main good food, but are willing to spend all afternoon waiting for it with apparently indifferent staff then this is the place for you. We won't be returning.
