St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle is a historic and significant site, both architecturally and culturally. Its construction began in 1475 under the reign of King Edward IV and was completed in 1528 during the reign of King Henry VIII. The chapel is an outstanding example of Gothic architecture, characterized by its magnificent stone fan vaulting and ornate stained glass windows.
The chapel is the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, the highest order of chivalry in Britain, established by King Edward III in 1348. The Order's annual service is held at the chapel, and members' heraldic banners and stalls are displayed within the Quire.
St. George's Chapel has been the site of numerous royal events, including weddings, funerals, and burials. Notably, it is the final resting place of several monarchs, including King Henry VIII, Charles I, George VI, and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. In recent history, it hosted the weddings of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank later the same year.

Read moreMy husband and I visited today 10/7/2021 for our wedding anniversary after coming from the castle i was a little excited about seeing this beautiful Chapel. I am in a mobility scooter due to serve fibromyalgia. I was greated warmly and taken to the entrance which is passed the beautiful steps that Prince Harry and meghan came down. We saw Princess Charlotte tomb and made our way upto the choir stalls and the Royal vault. The two ladies put the ramp down for me and when I got to the end we waited about 7minutes and this is when people started tuting and huffing as they passed me and hubby (even though I was over to the side.) The gentle man came over and put the ramp down and then bounced on it saying think this is safe, we went down the ramp and stairs. About 5 steps later we where at another two steps going up. Again I moved to the side my hubby went to fined the gentleman but could not find him. People where walking passed me and making comment that I was spoiling their day as I was in their way and that I should not have attended or even attempted to attend Windsor Castle and St George's Chapel. My husband herd these comments and saw that I was very upset that after 6 minutes he lifted my mobility scooter up the 2 steps. I was so embarrassed that I couldn't see the rest of the Chapel and made my way out of the sovereigns entrance. Having only recently lost my mobility and having to deal with being in a mobility scooter to keep my independence i came away from this experience ashamed of who I have be come due to no...
Read moreBooked a ticket online for a Friday, first slot available was 12 midday. We arrived at 12.15pm after finding a parking space in the town. There is no visitor parking at the castle so allow time for finding a parking space. We joined the queue to get through security which moved fast and was really well managed it took about 10 minutes which was impressive, given the number of people ahead of us. Once through security we walked up to the main gate , just inside there was another queue for Audio guides , as we were pushed for time we decided to give the audio guide a miss and explore ourselves.
St George's Chapel is a very impressive building containing so much history including the flag stone marking the burial place of Elizabeth II.
After spending time in the Chapel we visited the state apartments which were worth the entry fee alone. Please note that there was a really long queue for Queen Mary's Doll house so we decided not to visit.
There is no photography allowed inside any of the buildings and the staff working there are very active in terms of stopping any attempts at photography.
Would day that Windsor Castle as a whole is worth a visit, if you had time you could spend 3+ hours exploring we arrived at 12.15 and were walking out the exit at 2.30.
I was comparing it to Napoleon's Apartments @ The Louvre ,but not as impressive as the Palace at Versaille. However the fact that it still functions as a Royal Castle makes it...
