Disheartening Experience at The King & Castle Pub

Rating: ★☆☆☆

Today, I had an incredibly disappointing experience at The King & Castle pub, a place I visit regularly during my lunch breaks. As a loyal customer, I have always appreciated the ambiance and service at this establishment. However, today's encounter has left me questioning the standards of customer service.

Upon entering the pub, I was on the phone with my wife for our routine check-up. Politely, I approached the bar to order a pint of beer and a burger. To my surprise, the lady behind the bar outright refused to serve me, citing the fact that I was on the phone. I want to emphasize that I was not being disruptive, loud, or discourteous in any manner.

When I requested to speak to the manager, I was met with an even more disappointing response. The lady behind the bar claimed to be the manager and arrogantly stated, "I am the boss." Despite my attempts to resolve the situation amicably, she maintained her refusal to serve me.

What added to my frustration was the fact that the pub was relatively empty at the time, and there seemed to be no apparent reason for denying service. As a regular customer, I felt disheartened that my loyalty did not warrant the basic courtesy of being served.

In an attempt to seek clarification, I called the pub, only to be met with further disappointment. The lady on the phone closed the conversation abruptly after I shared my side of the story, leaving me without the answers I sought.

In conclusion, I am deeply disappointed by the lack of civility and customer service during today's visit. As a customer who has consistently chosen The King & Castle pub, I believe it is essential for establishments to uphold standards of service and treat patrons with respect. I hope this review serves as a constructive critique and encourages improvements in customer service at The King &...

I don’t usually write reviews but the doormen from The King & Castle have the worst attitude I’ve ever seen. They didn’t only refused to let us in (someone in our party don’t have his physical ID), presenting a copy of a picture ID (with photo and proper DOB), AND clearly stating that the person will NOT be drinking, they were also extremely rude to my parents who were just trying to look for a place to spend some time with us.

We spent a good couple of minutes looking for a picture copy of the ID to show to the doormen, in order to show that we are eligible for the bar. However, they waited until we found the copy to only tell us that they don’t accept copies of IDs. If that was the case, then they could have told us earlier and we can just go to somewhere else and we can all move on with our lives. But instead, they chose to chit chat with each other, allowing us to waste the time to look for the copy, and only to tell us our efforts were futile. This alone, is good enough for us to never return and write a review on Google to ensure that other potential customers will see this and impact their decision to ever come to The King & Castle.

Apparently, the restaurant would let their doormen decide whether or not it will profit from a family who would be more than willing to pay for two or more rounds of drinks. I guess they would rather hold on to their so-called “values” / “bad experiences” than to think logically about the circumstances and consider for the overall benefit for the bar.

We also felt that we’ve been treated unfairly due to our race, as we’re the only Asians around the area looking for some place to drink. This is our first time to Windsor and if this is how we’re treated, then I guess Windsor isn’t really that great of a...

Very very very unfriendly staff!! we came to this spoons last night for my boyfriends birthday. At first the woman bartender who was wearing a blue top came over to deliver our drinks, one drink was completely wrong and she was adamant that she was right, well, until she was proven wrong and said “can you drink it though?” bearing in mind, this was the wrong drink and cost me £8.

my friend then found a blonde long hair in her drink, (none of us have blonde hair, we are all brunettes) she went up to the bar where she was greeted by the same very rude woman, this woman made my friend feel very uncomfortable and said no one behind the bar has blonde hair, which was funny considering the woman who checked our IDs at the table had blonde hair ?!? and why on earth would we carry a stray blonde hair with us to purposely put in a drink? for a new drink? what would be the point?

the woman was so rude and made us feel so uncomfortable that we then moved to the top floor of spoons.

wetherspoons windsor, do better, hire better. because all that woman is going to do is bring down your reputation. she had the same customer service skills as a mouldy sandwich. absolutely awful.

So yeah I do not recommend this spoons unless you enjoy finding HAIRS in your drinks and rude staff who are willing to argue with you, over their own issues.

I’ve been to many spoons up and down the UK and this was actually shocking. (as you can tell this isn’t a one off review, many other people have had the same experience with the manager who’s as helpful as chocolate teapot, and the rude bartenders who are clearly inept.

DO BETTER, this spoons is becoming an embarrassment to even have in windsor, bring back dirty spoons asap!!! at least they spoke to their customers like...

If I could give zero stars I would.. 17th September 2025 I went in to the king and castle pub and saw they sold kopperbergs and asked if they had strawberry and lime and the person in the photo was so RUDE I was in complete shock. NO WE DONT IVE TOLD YOUR FRIEND. My friend is polish and told me they don’t sell kopperbergs and as I saw kopperbergs in the fridge I thought maybe she had got it mistaken. And I asked her why is she’s talking to me in that manner and being aggressive I won’t repeat her reply. I was asked to leave because I took a photo to name and shame and they obviously didn’t like it.. a hour went past and I was up by the castle and two men approached me and said they saw what happened and how appalled they were watching her talk to me in that manner. I explained how embarrassed I was and still quite shocked. He said I handled it perfectly by walking away as she clearly wanted me to react.. my friend thought they were racist and kept apologising and was so upset even though we found another lovely little pub called the carpenters arms (who were lovely) I will NEVER step foot in that pub again which is a shame as I’ve got some lovely memories in the garden with family dinners.. oh well I’ll spend my money else where as they clearly don’t need the business

I visited this Wetherspoon with my family expecting decent service, but what I experienced was outright racism. Customers with darker skin — including myself — were treated like trash. Ignored, spoken to with attitude, and made to feel unwelcome, while white customers were given smiles and prompt service. They insisted that my family members present ID'S to get their drinks, and when we mentioned to them that they should have checked it before I would order the drinks and get charged for it. There's a manager (Asian woman) she needs to get her attitude fixed and check where she herself comes from before judging anyone. It is because of people like her some of the Engish people dislike people with darker skin. This is 2025 — how is this still happening? Discrimination has no place in a public establishment, let alone a national chain. If this is how they treat people of colour, they don’t deserve our money or our silence. Wetherspoon needs to address this immediately and take action against that Asian woman. Train your staff, review your policies, and hold your team accountable. No one should be made to feel less than because of the colour of their skin. Ps. A picture of who to avoid has been attached. Do better.

The King and Castle pub in Windsor is a delightful blend of history, good food, and excellent service. Situated near Windsor Castle and the River Thames, it offers stunning views and a convenient spot for a meal or drink after sightseeing. The outdoor seating area is particularly popular in good weather, providing a lovely setting to enjoy a drink while taking in the scenic surroundings. The interior is tastefully decorated, featuring classic wooden furnishings, cozy seating areas, and historical décor that pays homage to Windsor’s rich heritage. They offer a variety of traditional British dishes and contemporary favorites. Popular options include classic fish and chips, hearty pies, and succulent burgers. The pub also caters to different dietary preferences, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. The drink selection is impressive, featuring a wide range of local and international beers, ales, and ciders. The pub also offers a good selection of wines and spirits. For those interested in local brews, the King and Castle provides an excellent opportunity to sample some of the region’s finest ales. The staffs were very friendly and ensured that the guests have a pleasant dining experience.
