I've wanted to visit St Ives for a while. Every year I come to Cornwall and never got around to do it. But being away on our holiday after covid lockdown we said let's go. So me my hubby, my mom and dad of 80 years and three small dogs decided to do it. We got there and got there quite easy from Newquay 45 or so minute drive not quite in the peak of the season thinking it would be quiet. I have never been so disappointed. Don't get me wrong the harbour and sea view was absolutely beautiful but to get down to the harbour and with a slow decline from the leisure centre were the main carpark was, it was horrendous. We slowly walked down and down, there was handrails admittedly, lots of steps very dodgy pavements, very tightly narrow cobbled roads, very small buildings built on top of buildings, small shops crammed into these tiny, I would say walkways not roads, but cars was driving through. So many people it was so stressful and with parents and dogs in tow we couldn't wait to get out of there. Such a shame for the local people that live there. We did manage to get something to eat and the food was exceptional and we did manage to get to sit and eat it. But as soon as we had had our meal and drink we had to battle our way out of there and the slow climb began. We was going to wait in the long ques for the bus, but it was rammed with people standing and I don't know how they got a bus around those roads. So a slow walk up to the carpark, it was raining and my mom struggled having COPD and aszma. Every one was very stressed out even our pets. Then we had to get to our vehicle and wait in a queue to pay for our ticket and then wait in a queue to get off the carpark. Will never return. I will only veiw the beautiful beach and harbour of St Ives in a magazine picture. Elderly, disabled beware not an easy visit. There was signs due to Covid for keeping to the left, which was impossible so we put on our face masks. Never been so stressed out in my life. Toilet facilities was just OK...

Read moreAfter not travelling to St Ives since I was a child I was excited to go back again.
I wanted this review of all of my reviews to be 5 stars, but sadly it cannot be.
While St Ives is the most quintessential English beach town tourist hotspot. Exactly this has happened to it over the last 25 years.
Its beauty and notoriety has caused it to become very very busy.
While the hustle and bustle of people is wonderful. It seems like the infrastructure has not been updated sufficiently to cope with it. Vans and trucks for deliveries are understandable in the shopping areas. But all the cars that are trying to struggle past with thousands of pedestrian tourists down the tiny narrow roads makes for an absolute chaos situation.
It should be pedestrianised with access only to loading vehicles in the town centre.
Also I could only find one ATM which was an old worldlink down the side of the post office.
The problem being, is Internet is poor on the peninsula and shops contact less machines go down. So shops that were previously only accepting card payments are now asking for cash, and one machine isn't enough.
Queues to get in shops makes for a less than idyllic trip to this little paradise.
I would highly recommend getting the bus into the centre. It's cheap, quick and sooooooo much less hassle.
All in all, I love St Ives and would still recommend. 3 stars for traffic.
But if anyone is reading this from the local council. I beg you, Please sort out the car traffic Situation...
