I watched Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and absolutely loved it. It exceeded my expectations making my experience at Vue Cinema in Newbury more special...
Read moreIt's great that Newbury has it's own cinema (since 2009). It was long overdue and had an positive impact on the town. There is nothing wrong with the cinema itself. It has enough screens (7), shows the latest films and sells massively overpriced, poor quality food like every other multiscreen. Tip: go and buy cheap drinks and cookies in Subway and take it in with you. The staff are generally good as well so can't really complain in that respect
However the cost is now prohibitive. Tickets are now £13.04 online or £15.04 for VIP tickets that are the same as other cinemas have as standard. Parking in the Kennet Centre keeps going up as well at £3.90 for 3 hours. This contrasts with Reading Vue at £5.74 so with a family that's where we go (or the even better Showcase). The Reading Oracle has a much better choice of eating as well.
When we have been there, the screen is nearly always empty. The Kennet Centre has being dying a slow death for years and is due to get redeveloped shortly so it's not going to get any better and I wouldn't be surprised if the cinema does not survive it's closure which...
Read moreHonestly, this place is getting worse. Went to see Ballerina (which was enjoyable so 5 stars for that). It was screen 2 which meant that we have the ripple effect across the entire screen. This has been so bad since 2022 in-fact. There were at least 8 seats out of commission due to damage whilst more were worn to being torn. The seat my wife sat on was torn quite badly and the joke is, this was a premium seat. There really is nothing premium at Vue Newbury anymore. We aim to go to the movies at least twice a month but honestly, we may start going elsewhere. To make matters worse, the heat was blaring out making it very uncomfortable for most of the movie. When we asked to have it turned down we’re were told it was the Kennet centre who controlled the heating and A/C and that they would email the control room! What? How does this business not have control over its own A/C. VUE, you really need to visit this cinema, because whom ever is managing it clearly wears a blindfold. It’s unfair on the front of house staff to have to deal with...
