It can be very hard for us to find suitable places to stay due to our circumstances (Three disabled adults and one Carer) so I had almost given up all hope of finding somewhere suitable to stay in the Lake District. Then I came across Windermere Marina and apartment 45 which is a 4 bedroom accessible apartment on the ground floor. It was more expensive than we usually pay for holiday accommodation but reviews were good and it ticked all our boxes so we book.|Check in was simple, and despite turning up about 5 minutes after 4, there was no queue.|The accommodation was spotless. We did decide to check all the usually missed areas and apart from a small amount of dust on a door frame it really was thoroughly cleaned. It also smelled lovely. Some properties have a musty smell to them but this was really nice.|We discovered that as well as the wet room and being ground floor, there is also space under the sink for a wheelchair and a pull out worktop at a lower level. The oven door slides in and is at a good height. The patio doors coming from the lounge are not flat but you can get in/out through the master bedroom patio doors if using a wheelchair.|The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were the best I've ever come across - I need to know the brand!|We had read about cigarette smoke blowing across from the restaurant next door but either rules have changed where smokers can sit or we were just lucky but it was never an issue. Unfortunately during our last few days an upstairs guest seemed to be permanently on his balcony smoking so we had to keep some of the doors shut which was annoying as we were blessed with fabulous weather. We also suspect it was one of his visitors that parked in our allocated parking space and meant we had nowhere to park as there was an event going on so it was extremely busy. Staff did try to locate the owner for us though, although unsuccessfully.|As we stayed two weeks, a lovely lady popped in half way through to change the bedding and give the bathrooms a clean and vacuum through. This was very much appreciated.|We didn't use the restaurant due to cost and dietary needs but the food did smell good. |The marina is in a great location, with great views. It's a short walk to Bowness on Windermere and a lovely little cafe on the way that is worth visiting. Most of the places we visited were only 15 - 30 minutes drive away and everywhere was within 1.5 hours (That includes Scotland)|We will definitely be returning, maybe not as often as we would like, but definitely...
Read moreMy partner and I just got back from a lovely getaway at the Windermere Marina Village, and while we're unpacking our cases, we’re already starting to miss it. It is one of the best places for a romantic break, and we couldn't have asked for better weather and a better place to explore the beautiful Lake District.||From the moment we arrived, we captivated in with the place. The setting is idyllic, our room was nestled right around the bustling marina, with its views of the boats bobbing about on the water and the fells in the distance. After a day out and about, we would just sit on our balcony with a glass of rosé wine watching the world go by. It was so peaceful and private, you felt a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.||Our apartment was a little slice of luxury. It was so well-equipped and beautifully decorated—we could tell a lot of thought had gone into the design. The kitchen had everything we needed, and although we did ‘eat out’ quite a bit, we also enjoyed a couple of cosy nights in cooking for ourselves. And honestly, the bed was so comfortable it was a struggle to get out of it in the morning! |The whole place was spotless, which is always a big plus for her. Er, not that I’m a pig or anything, but when I’m out with the boys we don’t go round checking if someone has dusted recently…. lol.||This location however is brilliant for couples. You're just a short, stroll along a footpath to Bowness-on-Windermere, so we would pop in for dinner or a wander around the shops without me having to worry about the car. |The on-site restaurant, Marina View, was a real treat. We had a couple of really nice meals there, and the service was top-notch. I have to hand it to the helpful friendly staff there, who made the stay there just that little bit better.||This is the bit where everyone says, “if you're looking for a peaceful, luxurious, and well-located spot for a romantic break in the Lake District, we'd highly recommend Windermere Marina Village.” But in reality, it really was a truly special time, and if you ‘do go’ I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, in fact we're already planning our return trip, that’s how good it was !||Sorry there’s no photographs, I was too busy enjoying myself to take any ‘selfies’ or my dinner or …. actually I didn’t take any pictures, what’s the point there’s a multitude n...
Read moreWe booked 8 Marina View and we certainly weren’t disappointed! The apartment is fabulous, beautifully clean, and has everything you need. The marina is lovely and peaceful and it is so nice to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view. |From the minute we arrived (early) the staff at the reception were so welcoming and helpful and gave us the access code so that we could park our cars up and have a walk into Bowness, with a promise to give us a call if our accommodation was ready early.|Bowness is about a mile from the marina, and it is a lovely walk. It’s also enjoyable to walk around the marina……there’s a small private “beach” area with tables and a couple of stone barbecues.|Because our apartment was on the third floor (there is a lift) it got quite warm, however there were two good fans that we cooled the bedrooms with.|The Hawkshead ferry is close to the marina village, where you can be a foot passenger for £1.15 and visit the Claire Viewing Station, where there is a fabulous view and a lovely vegan cafe.|Other places we visited were the Blackwell Arts & Crafts House, Fellfoot Park and the Lakeland Motor Museum, to name a few.|I’d recommend food at The Albert in Bowness, The Lily in Ambleside and Low Sizergh Farm.|Marina View was the perfect place to return to after days of exploring, and the perfect place to spend time if the weather...
