My wife and I had a lovely visit here including using the island cafe, I unfortunately am disabled and found that some of the area's very difficult to navigate. It would have been more stars were there better access for disabled people and some of the gardens were quite unkempt, also (not the boating lake) the water was what I considered to be very murky. The boating lake was beautifully designed and looked after with the peddle and row boat hire at a reasonable price, I was also pleased to see that there was a lift provided specifically for the disabled as the cafe and boat hire was down a flight of stairs. The cafe was clean and tidy and although I only had a coffee it was reasonably priced, if it hadn't been for the boat hire and cafe then unfortunately I would have only given it 1 star. A slight shame regarding the reasons for the lost stars as it has massive potential as a...

I spotted this wonderful public park on Google Earth and thought, "That looks interesting ....". Having visited, it is! I'm not hugely into municipal parks but I did find this fascinating and very, very unusual. Apparently, according to on-site signage, it was first laid out in 1928. After years of decline, it was re-opened in 2017 having cost £1.5m to restore and having had 17,500 new plants planted. Basically, it is a long, narrow park with winding, canal-like waterways. A network of paths run from end to end with bridges over the channels and a number of very attractive, thatched-roofed shelters and picnic spots. Even on a freezing cold, wet January morning there was a gentleman lovingly...

The boating lake is beautiful...but be careful of the islands cafe. My wife & I went into the cafe for food & coffees. I couldn't decide between a sausage roll PRICED UP @ £2.50 or a jacket potatoe @ £4. We both decided to have 2 jacket potatoes @ £4 each & found a table outside. The waitress came out a little later to say "there is only one jacket left"...so I replied ok I will have the sausage roll & could I have the difference refunded. The waitress replied "there isn't a refund as the sausage rolls are £4 each!" I went back into the cafe to show her their own price board....only to find it missing I cancelled my order. SHAME We wont...

I love going to The Venetian Waterways. Is a nice 20 min walk around, the garden is really good take care and everything blooming with new flowers. There is a lovely variety of Mediterranean plants, a big collection of salvias, different types of lavanda, and lots of history about the place displayed in boards. It's fantastic that is still open and they recover it for the public. Situated at the northern end of Marine Parade, the Boating Lake was first opened in 1926, followed by the Venetian Waterways in 1928 – designed by S. P. Thompson and built as part of a relief work scheme for the local unemployed after the First World War.
